The 2018 Oscars arrive after one of the worst years for Hollywood. The splendor of the kermesse will hardly make forget the tsunami of accuses and rumors about sexual abuse. The stars involved are so many - actors, directors and producers - that the Academy has had serious difficulties in writing down the nominee list. Immediately excluded Woody Allen, James Franco and Kevin Spacey, but many others have been "mysteriously" put out of the competition. How to get away from controversy as much as possible? Simple: with a showering of "good-natured" candidates (a racial horror and a moving homosexual story are among the favorites) and ample space for music. Let's all sing along and cover the chatter about private lives of the Hollywood system.
Music will save Hollywood?
It’s no coincidence at all, that the most awaited moments of the night are all constituted by live music: on the stage will rise Gael Garcìa Bernal and Natalie Lafourcade, Mary J. Blige, Andra Day, Keala Settle and Sufjan Stevens. The choice, however, seems more than apt, because this year has given us a flock of beautiful soundtracks. That's why we decided to offer you a playlist which condenses all of the good music of the films nominated for this year’s Oscars. The selection reflects our unquestionable preferences. Whether you like it or not, good listening.
The 5 best original songs from the Oscar-nominated movies of 2018
1) Remember Me, taken from Coco by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, sung by Miguel and Natalie Lafourcade
Soundtrack of the animated musical Coco, it’s a carefree and catchy song. The best song in a Pixar movie since You’ve Got a Friend in Me. It was sung in Italian by Michele Bravi, who did a pretty good job.
2) Phantom Thread I by Johnny Greenwood, taken from The Phantom Thread
With nuances taken out of a James Ivory period piece, the soundtrack of The Phantom Thread is incredible. Amazing how Jonny Greenwood knows every time how to adapt his compositional vein to the images of Paul Thomas Anderson. I wonder if posterity will remember Greenwood as "the one who plays in Radiohead" or as one of the greatest soundtrack composers of our time.
3) Vision of Gideon by Sufjan Stevens, taken from Call Me By Your Name
Enlisting the Michigan songwriter was an absolute priority for Luca Guadagnino, in creating his Call Me with Your Name. The choice is, in some ways, very fashionable: Sufjan Stevens is the most popular singer-songwriter in radical-chic environments. But Vision of Gideon is a great song and, without it, the ending of the film would not be so good.
4) What he Wrote by Laura Marling, taken from On Body and Soul
Nominee for Best Foreign Film, On Body and Soul will never win. It's a very good film, but The Square is the best of the five. However, it’s worthwhile to give a listen to this song by Laura Marling, the only audible musical moment in over 2 hours of playing time.
5) Harlem Shuffle by Bob & Earl, taken from Baby Driver
Edgar Wright's movie is a nominee for Best Editing, but boasts a soundtrack that rocks. Not much original material, just a long playlist of blockbusters from the 70s - 80s and 90s. In the film, the song by Bob & Earl soundtracks the best long shot of 2017.

Gli Oscar 2018 arrivano dopo uno dei peggiori anni per Hollywood. Difficile che gli sfarzi della kermesse facciano dimenticare lo tsunami di accuse e rumors sugli abusi sessuali. E le star coinvolte sono talmente tante – tra attori, registi e producer – che l’Academy ha avuto serie difficoltà nello stilare la rosa di nomination. Esclusi a priori Woody Allen, James Franco e Kevin Spacey, ma ce ne sono molti altri “misteriosamente” fuori dal concorso. Come allontanarsi il più possibile dalle polemiche? Semplice: con una pioggia di candidature “buoniste” (l’horror a sfondo razziale e una struggente storia omosessuale sono i favoriti) e largo spazio alla musica. Cantiamoci su, per coprire il chiacchiericcio sulla vita privata del sistema hollywoodiano.
La musica salverà Hollywood?
Non è un caso che i momenti più attesa in scaletta siano tutti live musicali: sul palco saliranno Gael Garcìa Bernal e Natalie Lafourcade, Mary J. Blige, Andra Day, Keala Settle e Surfjan Stevens. La scelta comunque sembra più che azzeccata, perché di belle colonne sonore quest’anno se ne sono prodotte tantissime. Ecco perché abbiamo deciso di proporvi una playlist, che condensa tutto ciò che di musicalmente buono nei film candidati agli Oscar 2018. La selezione rispecchia le nostre insindacabili preferenze. I 5 migliori brani originali tratti dai film degli Oscar 2018
1) Remember Me di Miguel e Natalie Lafourcade, tratta da Coco
Colonna sonora del musical animato Coco, è una canzone spensierata e orecchiabile. La miglior canzone in un film Pixar dai tempi di Un amico in me. In italiano è stata ricantata da Michele Bravi che ha fatto un lavoro niente male.
2) Phantom Thread I di Jonny Greenwood, tratta da Il filo nascosto
Atmosfere da noir anni ’40, la colonna sonora de Il filo nascosto è incredibile. Stupisce come Jonny Greenwood sappia adattare la sua vena compositiva a seconda delle immagini di Paul Thomas Anderson. Chissà se i posteri ricorderanno Greenwood come “quello che suona nei Radiohead” o come uno dei più grandi compositori di colonne sonore dei nostri tempi.
3) Vision of Gideon di Surfjan Stevens, tratta da Chiamami con il tuo nome
Arruolare il songwriter del Michigan è stata da subito una delle priorità di Luca Guadagnino, nel produrre il suo Chiamami con il tuo nome. La scelta è per certi versi molto modaiola: Surfjan Stevens è il cantautore più in voga negli ambienti radical-chic. Però Vision of Gideon è un gran pezzo e senza di lui il finale del film non sarebbe così bello.
4) What he Wrote di Laura Marling, tratta da Corpo e anima
Candidato come miglior film straniero, Corpo e anima non vincerà mai. è un film molto bello, ma è The Square il migliore della cinquina. Comunque vale la pena recuperare la canzone di Laura Marling, unico stacco musicale udibile nelle oltre 2 ore di minutaggio.

Il film di Edgar Wright è candidato come miglior montaggio, ma ha una colonna sonora che spacca. Poco materiale originale, è una lunga playlist di successoni anni ’70-'80 e '90. Nel film, il brano di Bob & Earl è protagonista del miglior piano sequenza del 2017.
Il genio della fuga è davvero bello!!
