This week impress your crush with a vast knowledge of upcoming shows. What I mean is…invite them to see some awesome live music!
Last week a full crowd turned up at Auntie Mae’s for their Tuesday “Underground Sounds” show featuring Philosophy of Lions and The Blackbird Fields. Open Mic at the VFW continues every 2nd and 4th Wednesday. The Lark and the Loon delighted the audience at Auntie Mae’s on Thursday. Friday was a busy day; Manhattan based Philosophy of Lions represented MHKmusic in Lawrence, singer-songwriter Rupert Wates played at Our HOUSE, KSU Latin Jazz Band performed to raise money for their upcoming trip to Cuba, and country artist Sam Riggs took the stage at RC McGraws. Saturday didn’t slow down much with Molly Tuttle Band performing at the MAC, Sally and the Hurts and Philosophy of Lions taking turns at Sisters of Sound, Logan Mize holding down the country scene at The Hat, and Monkey Business delivered covers from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s at RC McGraws.
This week will bring some excellent performances from all over the musical spectrum. Jazz fans will want to catch Robert F. Rodriguez at Bluemont Lounge on Wednesday; or JahVelle Rhone at Purple Masque Theatre on Saturday. If it’s Rock and Roll you’re after you will want to catch Headlight Rivals, Naked Fingers, and Starving in Style at Church of Swole on Friday. Country Fans should check out Lucas Maddy & The Kansas Cartel at RC McGraws on Saturday. If it’s Folk/Americana that you’re into I’d recommend The Great American Canyon Band at Auntie Mae’s on Saturday, or you could drive to Abilene for Jeff Crosby and the Refugees on Tuesday. If you need some Soul power, then check out Tower of Power at McCain Auditorium on Thursday. On Friday you can listen to beautiful ethereal folk during KSDB’s Classroom Series. Every Friday KSDB broadcasts live music from their studios, but this week we have a unique opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at whole process when The Ovaries-eez come to town and the Classroom Series moves to the Town Hall room at the Leadership Studies building on campus. Finally, if you want to sample great food while listening to a Ukulele Orchestra, Colbert Hills has got you covered on Friday.

The Bonebrake Concert Series continues with country and southern rock artist Jeff Crosby and the Refugees, who is currently on tour through the heart of America.
Idaho-born songwriter, singer, and guitarist Jeff Crosby has been
writing songs, grinding out shows, and sharing his unique perspective of Americana throughout the United States and beyond for the better part of the past 10 years. Two songs (Oh Love, Oh Lord and This Old Town) from his first official release featuring The Refugees, 2013’s Silent Conversations, were featured on the FX hit series Sons of Anarchy. As renowned publication No Depression puts it, “The story is there, the musicality is there, the songs are just great.” Featuring his band The Refugees, you can expect a blend of Americana; folk, and 70’s inspired psychedelic rock.

This time, they will broadcast and record live from the Town Hall in the Staley School of Leadership Studies.
