The Active Set - Let's Go Out Tonight

in #music7 years ago

Los Angeles native, Matthew Stolarz found little satisfaction playing in other peoples’ bands and decided to take matters into his own hands. After writing and recording a few albums and EPs and collaborating with producer, Jason LaRocca, Stolarz found himself touring in and around L.A.’s indie music scene, then on to SXSW, even supporting Neon Trees on a leg of one of their tours. He, along with newly-formed band, The Active Set, again decided to make a calculated decision and distance themselves from earlier recordings/releases and with new perspective in mind, write and record an entirely new project.

Everything Changes and included single, Let’s Go Out Tonight, along with a music video of the same name was released for public consumption in October of this year. The single is an introspective reminder about what’s coming in one’s life and obstacles and answers that lie ahead. Lyrically it’s profound and somewhat uplifting, even motivational at times. Musically, Let’s Go Out Tonight is a shipshape package of new wave and Brit pop along with super-sized, memorable choruses, churning guitars, soaring vocals and plenty of pent energy.

Visually speaking, Let’s Go Out Tonight delivers. It depicts a man on his journey to (or from) what lies ahead (or behind) of him. The video uses existing architectural steel girder walkways in constant motion that leave constructivist patterns in their wake for viewers. Let’s Go Out Tonight is fun, but consequential, it’s parabolic and well-intended at its core. Always intriguing and evolving, we’ll be waiting for The Active Set’s next fork in the road.
