Who "blew" who? Ice Prince Zamani or Brymo Olawale?
A question that pops up in people's minds when they hear two superstars who got arguably more popular on the same song. Situations like that cannot be far fetched in the music industry, with the likes Olamide and Wizkid (on Omo to Shan ) and the main focus of this, Ice Prince Zamani and Brymo Olawale.
Oleku, a song produced by Jesse Jagz In the year 2010 hit the clubs and shut them down within days of its release, vibrating through the airwave to all ears. And now, Oleku, even after years of production, when heard, still bursts the brains of average music fans in Nigeria and abroad and it remains arguably the "best" and longlasting collaboration in Nigeria.
Wait!!! Let's rewind to a time prior to the release of the hit track.
The two upcoming artists (at the time) were signed to chocolate city (a record label founded in 2005 by lawyer Audu Maikori along with Paul Okeugo and Yahaya Maikori) which boasts of artistes like Jesse Jagz, Brymo (who later left over contract based disputes), Ice Prince and MI Abaga, who was also the vice president (now president) of the label.
After both Ice Prince and Brymo produced songs individually, breakthrough seemed far and almost impossible until Oleku in which Ice Prince (a rapper) "killed" the verses and Brymo (a singer) "murdered" the chorus with his pleasing-to-hear voice.
Not long after the breakthrough, the artistes went ahead to produce some of the biggest hits of the decade in Ara and Superstar (by Brymo and Ice Prince respectively).
Fast forward to the present day, Ice Prince, still one of the best rappers in the industry has been on a low key doing his "thing" and making his "dough" while Brymo, regarded by many as a lyrical god for his "content-full" lyrics and philosophical songs, has been ruling his own different world in the Nigerian music industry and has released many albums, with the most recent, KLITORIS, still on the minds of his fans and lovers of "good" music.
And now, the question remains who "blew" who? With the song (Oleku).
While some argue that since Oleku was owned by Ice Prince, he pushed Brymo to limelight, some others chose the other side of the coin, claiming the song would have never become a hit if Brymo wasn't on it.
What if a different singer was on the chorus, would it still have the same effects on our minds?
Did Brymo hit the celebrity world because he was featured by Ice Prince? Or did Ice Prince become famous by featuring Brymo on the song?
