Crisis of Conformity – “Fistfight in the Parking Lot”

“Fistfight in the Parking Lot” (2010)

In this brilliant comedy sketch from Saturday Night Live (SNL), a bunch of aging middle-age men step forward to re-unite “the old band”  – that is, their ‘80s-era hardcore punk band, Crisis of Conformity.

The venue is not some dark, dingy punk bar, but the wedding reception of the former singer’s daughter, in a prim and proper event hall at a fancy hotel.

Mid-Life Crisis? What Crisis?

It’s been almost 30 years since the band last performed. We can expect that these men have lost that vibrant spark of youth, that wild drive, that feverish energy that had them making noise out of chaos all those years ago.

These poor guys have grown older. They’ve grown tired, tiresome, and – probably – boring. And their music has probably become dull and boring, too.

But – surprise, surprise – they do not let us down.   (Image source)

Crisis of Conformity

(Punk Band Reunion at Wedding – SNL skit)

Crisis of Conformity was a fake hardcore band, assembled for this short SNL skit (which aired on 6 February 2010).

Vive la Revolution

This sketch was the brainchild of musician and actor Fred Armisen, an SNL cast member at the time. He produced it as a tribute to the hardcore bands who created the “aggressive, revolutionary music”  of his youth.

He also stated that it was “a love letter to my teenage years,”  as well as “a thank you to all the bands that inspired me.”   (Image source)

Yeah!!!!

When Ronald Reagan comes around
He brings the fascists to your town
You think it's cool to be a jock
But we get beat up by the cops

Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot
Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot

Corporations want your cash
Let's go downtown and smash some glass

Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot
Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot

I guess my mind's all messed up
But isn’t that a result of going to your schools?
Being a part of your system?
I bet you'd like me to put on a tie and eat a Happy Meal
Maybe you want me to have 2.5 children and live behind a white picket fence
Well, I've got a better idea
How about I put my fist through your window?

Are you getting that, Ed Meese?
Do you hear me, Alexander Haig?
It looks like there's going to be a ….

(One, two, three, four!)
Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot
Fist fight, fist fight
Fist fight in the parking lot

Hi @majes.tytyty
I laughed a lot, how nice it is to start the morning with a smile on my face and nobody knows why.

This reminds me of my mother who always comments on the man even if he gets old he will always be a child.

Saludos.

Ya, I laughed many times when I was previewing and composing and posting this one. It's hilarious, cuz what they do and how they do it is so unexpected.

Hope you can keep a smile on your face throughout today, and throughout most days.

I need some music for the hard time, thanks!

That one of the reasons I've been making this "Mock'n'Roll" series of posts. We all need to laugh now and then, particularly during those times that seem hard.

Cheers!!
