The Financial Times data visualization expert Alan Smith published on the website his research of the financial instruments market. Musicians could pass this event, if not for one thing: the study of Smith has turned the most music. Man not only visualize data, but also created music on this basis.
According to Smith, data visualization is well known to people, which cannot be said about sonification - a special process in which mathematical formulas and data serve as the source of sound. Using data on the yield curve of securities in the United States over the past 40 years, Smith literally showed how the economy sounds.
The reasons for this move was Smith's desire to make visualization more memorable due to different types of information. In addition, expert wanted to make the animation more accessible to readers with vision problems.
To implement his idea, Smith used historical data on the yield curve obtained from the free archive of the US Treasury. The data was uploaded to a special system, where graphics were created using the free D3.js visualization libraries. The data was then driven through WebMidi.js, which generates MIDI events and notes based on the incoming data. Smith imported the resulting MIDI files into Logic Pro X, where he picked up the appropriate sounds and instruments.
