The Undeniable Benefits of Music in Our Lives

in #music6 years ago (edited)

A lot of people say that the music you love has something to say about you. Well for me, it's a bit judgey when we base someone's personality because of their taste in music. A person's musical taste is maybe influenced by his/her parents. Or maybe you love your favorite song because it has something to say about your experience in life.

Music really has a huge factor in our life. From a happier mindset to more motivation, there’s a lot of wonderful reasons why we should listen to music. Below are some benefits in listening to music:

1. Music Helps You Relax

Listening to music can have an excellent relaxing effect on our minds and bodies, especially in slow and quiet music. Studies show listening to music can ease stress. Simply put, that music can be a medicine for your mind.

2. It Can Put You In A Good Mood

According to research, music can lift up your mood and can make you feel like the happiest person in the world. Admit it, even if you are very tired from school and work, a happy tune can really make you feel like you are walking on a very nice day.

3. Music Reduces Pain

I know, I know. You’ve played a lot of sad songs on repeat after a breakup (admit it, we all do it). Research shows it may help. Research suggests sad music may actually result in positive emotions. There was a study in 2014 that when people listen to sad songs they will experience more empathy because they are connected to the sadness of the song artist but experienced no “real life effect” of the sad event. This, in turn, can provide you a psychological relief, according to experts.

4. Music can be motivating during a workout

Well, I can't relate to this one. But, most of my friends are listening to music while they do their work out. Music with a lot of basses or pumping music may be the key to pumping more iron. Researchers suggest that music can boost your workout. It can also help you run faster and better your endurance.

5. Music Can Help You Sleep

According to research, music has an effect on our parasympathetic nervous system, which helps our body relax and prepare for sleep. Music has the power to slow our heart rate and breathing, lower your blood pressure, and trigger your muscles to relax. Also, there was a study in 2008 that listening to classical music helped ease insomnia in college students.

6. It Can Motivate You To Finish Your Work

Got some work to do? Like projects, assignments, cleaning, washing your clothes and more. Listen to some music. Background music can boost our performance on tasks. Research also suggests cheerful music can help you do well under pressure.

7. Music Stays With You

Ever wonder why you still love the songs you listen when you are still in your youth? Well, there is a reason why those old boy band songs never fade from your heart. Music is the ultimate reason for nostalgia. Many experts believe that your brain stays attached to music from your youth because you listened to it when you are still gaining a sense of yourself, your connection to people and the world around you.

Now, it's time to bring out your headphones and have a tune!
