I think a lot of successful singers would not have made it far in such contests as they are looking for something else. I tend not to watch these shows anyway. They do find some new stars, but the music is mostly not interesting to me

Touche - me neither. I really respect artists who write their own material, it somehow makes it all complete. I hate the fact that the X-Factor play the system to make the Xmas number one too. I loved it when Rage from the Machine beat them a few years ago.
