"Music of the Voice." The musical story: The leader of the sirens Tim Buckley

in #music6 years ago

Losing anger, losing music.
Tim Buckley

Tim Buckley (Tim Buckley) you do not need to know how not to know all the wonders of the world. But, after learning it, you discover in your life that mysterious door into which only curious Alice and other lovers go after the white rabbits. imageStanford University, California, 1974. An ordinary boy Timmy was born and grew up in an ordinary family, who loved music. Grandmother listened to Billy Holiday and Bessie Smith, my mother liked Sinatra. The little Timmy kid himself leaned toward Joni Cash and even learned to play the banjo. Everything is as usual: the boy went to school, made friends, dreamed. Until I realized that not singing for him - it's like ordinary people do not breathe.

Timmy quickly learned his favorite pastime, bringing his voice to the edge of possibilities. Friends were surprised to see him imitate the sounds of musical instruments and shout after the passing buses. And soon the world was a miracle from Tim Buckley - his voice.

It seemed that the voice did not fit in him or around. He was powerful, like the leader of the sirens, four octaves. But Tim knew how to manage it, he had a fantastic vibrato, and he always fell into tonality. Tim was only sixteen, and his voice was already called "the gift of God."

With such talent, Tim Buckley had one road. Trying himself in show business, he first impressed his imagination and saw many colleagues, producers, and ordinary listeners. At the age of nineteen, Buckley had his own full-length studio album. Let and recorded for three days with the help of session musicians, but on the protection of the drummer Frank Zappa.

It was 1966. The album "Tim Buckley" was popular among the advanced guys, not deprived of talents. One of them was George Harrison. Surely he had told Brain Epstein to make Tim an offer of cooperation. Do not go to the fortune-teller, it would be Tim Buckley's name now in many people's hearing, if it were not for Brian's premature death. And here it would be possible to talk about the unhappiness of Tim, but ...

But the second album "Goodbye And Hello" seems to have added weight to the artist. The success was much more significant than the previous one. And although some wonders of Buckley's voice were hidden by arrangements, all the trump cards could be laid out later. In addition, things went uphill - concerts, invitations on television and radio. And most importantly - a growing number of fans.

Here Tim would be right to dispose of his talent, slowly and steadily moving upwards, doing popular things, taking for example the successful colleague of Jackson Brown. And no one would dare to call his career unsuccessful. However, Tim's spirit was irrepressible, like a voice. And with the next record "Happy / Sad" he boldly followed in the footsteps of his dear and beloved John Coltrane and Miles Davis. The real artist Tim Buckley wanted to develop, but he was disappointed - the boundaries to which he wanted to shove were prepared not only for him, but for the whole human race.

Tim Buckley continued to demonstrate that he was not going to allow the show business to swallow himself, but this monster did not care. The two subsequent albums only discouraged ordinary public interest in the work of Tim Buckley, although he still a little pleased with the album "Blue Afternoon". True, only in the musical plan, but he sang quite another:

"There is no such wealth in the world that could buy my pride. There is no pain that could cleanse my soul. No, only a melody melting away from me. " imagePhoto from timbuckley.com

And the unique Coltrane "Starsailor", released in 1971, completely puzzled everyone who listened to it.

To criticism, Tim Buckley replied:

"Sometimes you write and you know that you will not get into the top. But you do this because in this your heart and your soul, and you must say it. When you take a chord, you relate yourself to something ... The less number of chords you play, the less likely that you will be taken to some category, and the more you can discover in yourself. "

Choosing, like his idol Fred Neal, between dubious success and obscurity - the last one, Tim Buckley duly passed this way to the end. After "Starsailor" there were three more albums, at the same time Tim was engaged in literature and theater, tried himself at the cinema, went on tour to Europe. But all this did not return the former attention of the public. And only death by absurd chance liberated Buckley from further disappointments. Life went through the skating rink on the gentle soul of the artist. However, for those who appreciated him, he remained a fine troubadour outside of time.
