How to study violin, correctly

in #music7 years ago

I bring you a post that may serve several who wonder, how the violin is studied.
I know it's something, that almost everyone, happened to us in our student days.

Well, first of all, there are several ways to do it according to the person, it works more one method or another, but here I will share, my personal experience and the information I have had readings and search for information from other sources, especially of recognized masters of first level, and soloists, as much of violin as of other instruments, like: Ivan Galamian, Leopoldo Auer, Carl Flesch, Arthur Rubinstein, Issac Perlman, Dorothy DeLay, among others.

We have to keep two important things in mind, which seem very obvious when we read them, but when we study them we totally ignore them, believe me. they are a common mistake in the students of this instrument.

1 - The brain learns with repetitions, (the more you repeat, the more it takes hold in the brain)
2- "The quality of those repetitions"

Interpretation Study
incorrect repetitions = mistakes and continuous errors

Regular repetitions = 50% of correct answers and 50% of errors
(sometimes correct and sometimes not) (errors usually occur, because of nerves)

Correct repetitions = Almost 100% chance of doing it right
(you are less prone to nerves)

In summary :
If we were to study a piece, passage, or anything on the violin, and we were to play for example about 10 times, 10 times we should try to make it perfect, because this would be what we would be teaching our brain, and It will then be reflected at the time of playing.

How to study violin, correctly

This is another one of the myths. As many as we have not spent that, in post, video classes, advice from other musicians, tell us to study slow. but they do not tell us how or how it works, it is useless, as it often happens, to study slowly and do it incorrectly, as we mentioned above, the slow study is, to take a speed in which we can control that every note we play We can do it correctly. So let's each take a time when we are able to achieve this. it is not by force that slow must be black = 60 in the metronome, take the slow time in which you can do it correctly and realize it. (without exaggerating with an extremely slow tempo) but good, according to your needs.

This form of study saves a lot of time, and avoids spending many hours of study, 8, 12 hours or more, in the end who wants to stop all day practicing.

As Arthur Rubinstein said, if you have to study more than 4 hours it's probably that you're not doing well.

Each hour we study 50 min and 10 rest (because the concentration is very high and we must rest) to concentrate on the next 50 min.

For professional violin should be studied a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 5

Hours
1 Dedicated to basic technique (bow strokes, etc.)
2 Scales and repertoire passages
3 Studies and / or whims of Paganini
4 Concert
5 Bach sonatas or repertoire

Of all of them, the most important is the first. Well, despite the fact that the goal is music, first of all, if you do not have a good technique, even if you have the right musical ideas, or the most innovative ones, you will not be able to do them as you think.

In case of lack of time studying the hours should be 1.3 and 4.

The works or pieces
We should if we have about 6 weeks to study the following in each piece
Week
1 The tuning
2 Rhythm
3 Agility (being able to play the work without stopping or mistakes
4 Sound production (playing with a good sound volume
(So far we have the skeleton of the work, or framework) already achieved all this before it is very easy to make music

5 Music (we include regulators, dynamics and tempo changes, vibrato, etc.

I hope it can be useful for many to clarify a bit of this study and that they are more effective and need less time to achieve their goals

Greetings to all, and any questions comment.
