I come from a varied musical background, my parents listening to a little bit of everything, but mostly electronic music. Naturally, this pushed the angsty preteen me to develop a love for the newly discovered heavy metal and anything unconventional, and now I'm a bit older I've found the perfect balance between the two...

I've been listening to a lot of songs from my childhood lately as I've been back into hanging out at festivals, raves and the like. So I decided to include these two because they they are both by bands that have stuck with me the most. These are both bands I feel I will never grow tired of...

Faithless - Not Enuff Love

This song is so haunting there is no way I could avoid including it. As a child the meaning didn't sink in as much as it has now and I think that's probably why it gets me so much. It really does get us thinking about how much we actually take for granted daily. Obviously what it meant to me then, is not what it means to me now, but even as a kid I do remember relating to it and did definitely feel sorrow, despite the young age. And that's why I think it's great. It definitely sinks the message in.

"There's money in my pocket, but I just can't get no love."

There is just something about eerie sounding song's I'm a complete sucker for. I love Rolo's rapping verses in this song, they really make it something special. Or maybe that's just Rolo in general, I think I'm yet to discover a Faithless song that bores me, even after 19 years of listening to them. Honestly, Faithless are the one band I refuse to believe anybody could dislike. Faithless are such a huge part of my life at this point, my mind is probably atleast 85% Faithless. OK, I don't quite know what I mean there but anyway...

Leftfield - Original

Again, I simply can not describe my feelings for this band. I actually didn't realize how much I loved them until around 3 years ago when I rediscovered their Leftism album, but I have been listening to it almost religiously since. It's just perfect for every mood, whether it be chilling, partying or even working. It just works. And I love everything about it.

But I included this song because as a music video creator, I absolutely adore the video, it's just so unique and such a cool style. And the song itself. Well. The lyrics have been a big part of what has shaped who I am today to be honest, as a child I was not original. I followed the crowd. I remember claiming to like bands or things I had NEVER heard of, simply because it was cool, everybody liked it, so I assumed I would too and felt compelled to support it. Why?

Now I'm older I just sit and remember all the times I did this and cringe. I am different, I always have been deep down inside, and I always will be, I do not care. Being different is what makes us, US. You have to think for yourself, otherwise you'll just be eaten up in the sea of everything else exactly the same.

I love the instrumentals because they are just fab, and I love the lyrics because of the message. I don't think there is really anything else to say, apart from:

I LOVE THESE BANDS AND WILL STILL BE LISTENING TO THE SAME ALBUMS WHEN I AM 80.

Yeah, we're all different even though we always try to find similarities/ parallel to not feel too alone.

Reading this, I think you might like my two posts from last month ( Music that is changing my Life). I had forgotten how good Faithless is. I was lucky enough to see them (around 2000) playing God is a DJ and many other songs as the closing gig of a big music Festival (Pinkpop or Rock Werchter). It was amazing, mesmerizing (and I didn't need any drugs for that, some beers probably), what an energy!

This song is amazing. I don't know that much about Leftfield, but I have to admit that I had such a broad taste in music, that you can't know it all: punk, hard rock, rock, pop, electronic, eurodance (haha!) and so much more. I also was a big fan of bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Manic Street Preachers and so on and so on and all kinds of sing and song writers.

Keep them coming!
