Absolutely, in terms of number of users and accounts, it hard to beat a platform that starts out in a super power country with >2 Billion population and utter mania when it comes to latest apps, startup, and investment (or anything todo with multiplying capital).

In terms of content, and diversity especially in the English language, it will take ONO > 1 year to catch-up and overtake Steemit as the goto location for not just latest crypto information but also general web content.

ONO is at a disadvantage here not because of Steem's 1st mover alone, but because it has not place an emphasis (yet) on sponsoring communities that foster growth and retention of talent like Stem, Curie, ComedyOpenMic, or even delegation to DAPs like Steem has, but this can change quickly if leadership in ONO deems it necessarily so.

ONO's primary team is more familiar with user acquisition (that Team has already proven they can ramp up to 1 million users in just a few months in their prior location based social media experimental project called ERA) but ONO is less familiar with community building as compared to Steem. Most of the Steem communities are build by leaders on Steemit using Steem.chat and Discord. To replicate this, ONO has to recruit and retain at least 100s of such caliber leaders to play catchup.

You haven't even touched the topic of platform stability at all. Who would want to use a buggy platform?

were you around in the 1st week of Steemit or first month or 1st quarter, as a coder, software architect and current pm, as long as it's improving it's normal, ONO is probably doing it Chinese dev style....rapidly improving. Their user base will grow in the tens of thousands just like Steem does even with all the 101 bugs.

oh yeah they are asking for early beta testers to join to report bugs and stuff, this is not their official launch.

if it's any help - if you get the ERROR mesg, it's their server end, shutdown the App and try again (I did it like 9 times yesterday before I enrolled successfully with International code, don't use their local beta test code you only get 100 ONOT, international testers get 500). If you get Code Error, use VPN to a different location (free www.tunnelbear.com) should work.

In China? Maybe, but not worldwide. ONO is a Chinese social network. That means it is tweaked for greater adoption in China.

But in the near future, I can't see it taking over Steemit. They are facing difficulty onboarding new members now. I tried out their invite but that didn't work very well for me. The platform is highly unstable not ready for mass adoption.

Steemit thought has a lot of problems is still much better and stable. For ONO to reach that level, it will take at least a year or even more. Steemit has the first mover advantage.

So, no I don't think ONO is going to overtake Steemit in the foreseeable future.

I think they are geared towards entirely different audiences and have very different use cases and design structures. When you ask if it could overtake Steemit, I'd need to know in what capacity you mean.

Can ONO have more active daily users? Sure.

Can ONO overtake Steemit in quality content? That's very subjective.

Can ONO overtake Steemit in market cap? That's entirely up to the subjective value of the market and you'd have to compare ONOT to STEEM. I think STEEM is a much more versatile token with infinitely more functionality and use cases than the ONOT burn for advertising model. It's like comparing apples to oranges and ultimately kind of irrelevant/flawed on the basis that they do very different things.

It's hard to know if I'm answering the actual question you are asking, but if you'd like to clarify, leave me a reply and I can potentially provide better insight.

First thing i hear about it ...

a network in china huh ? i have learned by now to hold my opinion on stuff that isnt even launched yet, after the last like flixxo and tron ... (not much movement there since "launch day"

chinese tend to be somewhat cohesive as a whole, plus there's one billion of them where steemit is a global network with people from all places, you get a lot of different languages which already creates barriers but if that thing takes off its more likely the barrier there will be chinese/english, lots of chinese speak english but lots of them don't (well "speak" ... understand and can communicate in it) but the other way around is different.

Since there's already over a billion chinese they wouldnt really need to expand beyond the geographical borders in order to grow bigger,

steemit has slightly over 1,08million accounts right now , over the whole world, after two years ...

ask yourself the question though : a network that can NOT BE CENSORED

in china ?

i will leave that hanging in the air :)

because it's debatable

Some questions to your assumptions:

  1. It's running already, aka it's launched (just not massive official launch, kinda like a buggy for beta-testing soft-launched )

Here's a link but you only have like 1/4 chance of successfully installing it without some guidance (for now): https://www.ono.chat/ono/invite/?lang=en&pos=en#/catch/uid/100001926

if you want to successfully check it out, DM me in Discord for details: dj123#2863

  1. It's running off the EOS technology there won't be total censorship (well it will have as much censorship as Steemit I suppose), it's code will be open source once it's stable, there is a form or republic kinda consensus voting, also representative that the citizens vote for to handle bad actors, all the rules are subject to referrendum or sorts ........to know more you can read the white paper.

  2. The founder left China when she was 12 and brilliant by any measure, my observations is that her principles are more like Elon Musk and less like Jack Ma but she's strongly driven like both of them, and since she had her formative years in Western cultures...she probably thinks more like a westerner and less like an Asian. She came back to china as an adult to access capital and cheaper developer resources to build her companies, a string of success from 20-24 is scary impressive, but she's still down to earth and takes time to communicate to the ONO communities and her followers, she has higher social charm and skills than @ned (hair style not withstanding) and enough technical knowledge to attract and inspire and lead those with technical expertise in the blockchain world.

The drive behind the ONO project will continue to be very strong, I think this is great for Steem, ONO's success will legitimize Steem as a valid cypto uses case, and healthy competition will surely spur innovation in the Steem Universe.

thank you very much for that, i went to the site for an invite already but as these things go it can take months, i like how you compare her to Musk , if she can do without the american narcissism she might even be better hahah, good chance if she has chinese roots there. Ma might be a 1%er but he didnt get it for free either, problem with some people is the fact that loads of money seems to erase certain parts of memory lol.

I have been looking for alternatives, i should say "additives" to steemit because mostly any dapp you get runs on the same chain so whatever you post goes from and to the same wallets (nobody is ofcourse here for the money, we're all here for the content, blablaaaa, i think it goes hand in hand, its both a culture AND an economy, a veritable ecosystem, it comes with money so it would be hippocrite to say people here just ignore that (barring the already rich ofcourse)
i havent seen ned communicate much other than in videos posted by third parties but i hear there's some discord channel from aggroed where the gods of the pantheon like to hang out

not that im very interested, i try to stay away from politics because politics is filth, wether its social or business and you hit the nail on the head there, a lot of these upper class cryptonnaires have zero feeling or empathy with the real world below, its like they dont know what it is to not have millions in your account

i personally woultn run for witness even if i had the clout here, but i would seriously like to achieve dolphin level and sustainability, so any separate network offering the same system (with maybe better and more advanced options ) is always welcome

someone directed me to minds.com where i have an account too, but i haven succeeded in withdrawing their tokens yet ... i wouldnt even know where to sell them hahah

but the more the merrier, if not for competition then for more options, added bonus for me is getting in touch with people living in asia

where i feel my destination lies, for years now

silly thing to say maybe in 2018 but thats how it feels for years

lol, no need to register, it's ready use if you're ok with doing some beta testing while you earn some ONOT

for iOS enable the enterprise software to use it in General
