My 2018: A Tour around my town: Welcome to San Juan de los Morros city!

San Juan de los Morros is a small City and its name comes from Saint John the Baptist and the mountains nearby called "Morros".

Where to go and what to do in San Juan?

There are plenty of options where to go, and what to do depending on your budget, and what type of activities you prefer. For instance:

If you like to workout, play sports or watch local regional games, you can go to "La Villa Olimpica", a complete sports complex where you can practice aerobics, zumba, crossfit, football (soccer), tennis, climbing, basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, beach football, ping-pong and many others that I just could not upload enough pictures.

If you like to be in contact with nature, you can practice hiking or just plain trecking in one of the four places for those activities such as Los Morros, Picachito, Pariapan Hill. and Santa Rosa Hill.

If you like clubbing, there are many places where you can find youngsters, such as"Alicia" or "Vic Jordan", but I recommend you to go to the two best discotheques of the city which are called "Marylin" (in honor to Marylin Monroe), and "Amnesia" (in honor to the hangover you will get), most of them are usually bursting full of people after 1:00 am.

If you like to see the city, there are 3 places that I highly recommend you can go to which are Plaza Bolivar, with a huge statue of San Juan; el Mirador, where you can see a great part of the city; el Monumento de la Bandera (the flag monument); all of them offer a great view of historical construction and they are also a great place to take some pictures.

If you like to relax, there are many clubs with pools, but I recommend "Los Baños Termales" (the Thermal hotsprings), it is a Hotel with a great restaurant and pools from the hot water springs to enjoy and relax; you can also go to the bathing river "El Castrero", which is of free admittance and it has a lot of stands where you can prepare your own barbecues and grills.

If you like to eat fast food/junk food, we have all the major franchise restaurants, but I prefer the local and well concurred place called "La Calle del Hambre" (Hunger Street), a big group of local stands selling different types of fast food and even ice-creams!.

If you have the budget, you can also fly around the city or even jump from an airplane taking a skydiving course, which is too expensive for most of the locals, but it will give you breathtaking pictures of the city from above.

There are also places where the Symphonic Orchestra plays classic songs, but there are also other Jazz bands and local musicians and bands playing every now and then in places like "El Teatro Simon Bolivar" or "La Casa de la Cultura", most of them are free admittance.

Some people say there is not much to do, others complain of the high cost of things, but as I have shown you, there are many options and many places to go to offering a great variety of activities depending on your budget. And, if you are a extreme risk-taker, you can even do High Risk Tourism, visiting slums like Brisas del Valle sector 5, Bella Vista and El Basurero, where you can get dope, hookers, weapons and stolen objects at a very low price, but I do not recommend anyone to go to those places.

Though my country (Venezuela) is facing hard times, there are still many tourists who visit Venezuela due to the high exchange rates you get when changing foreign currencies into bolivars (the national Venezuelan currency).
