Cactus Patch - Show Us Your California

in #mycalifornia3 years ago

Hi Friends,

This post is an entry into the weekly Show Us Your California contest hosted by @thesocalhive where we show our California.

California has a diverse set of landscapes and climates, but here in Southern California, you can often find cactus patches when hiking around. Here is such a cactus patch that I recently came across:

Once the cactuses start growing in an area, they seem to take over because they grow and reproduce in clusters. It doesn’t take long for a cluster to become an overgrown patch, to the point where hiking around them gets problematic.

Of course, with temperate and desert plants, there are often thorns and pricklies so the cactus fits right in. They also seem to thrive at certain altitudes, though I couldn’t exactly describe those altitudes.

So when you come to So Cal for a hike in the local mountains, watch out for those thorns and prickers!

Thanks for coming by and seeing a little piece of my California.

Brian
