MTGO

in #mygolast month

I have a story about bots from 30 years ago. There was MTGO for windows 95. Like magic the gathering online, but the first version. It was taken down. Used to have black lotus and all kinds of cards we played with. And it was real money as well. I was just a kid...built up from nothing. And I saw the bots come. First they ruined trading. Then they ruined the game. Right, an average person couldn't even beat a bot back then...in magic cards, which is fairly complicated. It was real money gaming long before Y2K even...and the bots ruined it. That's when I started hating them LOL
I use to trade cards in all my free time. Then the bots came, loaded with prompts. Slowly they set prices. The squeezed margins till like 5% on buy/sell. There were a few bots, the 5 trading, then 10, then 20 then 40... and at that point, there was bot to accomodate anyone that wanted to trade any card 24/7, and no1 would want to trade with a real person at point. It would take too long and what's the point...bots used tiny margins.

The developers didn't care about that version. I think they were working on something new. Because sadly even before the bots became a big problem there was 'hacked' cards. These cards were overpowered, and not something offically put out..and also, there were mulitple copies of them, so there was duping too apparently. But ya, every card had a real $ value and that was way back when. Funny how they didn't even care to try deleting the hacked cards or anything. It's just that I know they were working on a whole different version (probably for browser), so they let that one go...so I saw what happens LOL. Items get hacked in games a lot more often than people imagine IMO. Even in these modern ones, where people readily buy stuff (and they never let you sell anything). They don't let you sell because IMO, they know people will find a way to hack items to sell. (OFC they also want to sell them all themselves).

So im attracted to NFT items for this reason too. Although, im no expert in coding, who's to say someone isn't cheating without an NFT item? The more blockchain is involved in every aspect of the game, the more transparncy etc. IK how people find exploits fast when real money is involved.
same in d2, I had so many gfg rares like traded all day before d2jsp existed even. But after a short while there were hacked items and many dupes. And many methods to dupe lol. It's so hard to stop, especially the more complex the game.

So maybe blockchain can't stop ppl from hacking (because some processes are done on a server), if something serious happens, at least we will probably see it (in the token distribution or something - there will be a trace of it somewhere).

And to me botting is very similar lol. But in this game terracore , the players can do something about it..just have to attack them a lot :p No1 is likely to care about it as much as me though. And for sure it's not up to the developer to tell us who is. It's easy to find out if you know a little programming.
I laugh at the people who, in other blockchain games told me these games are about having fun, then they support bots too. They have no idea. In the end, you'll have no fun. I know for sure. These games aren't about fun IMO it's about earning $. PPL think whatever though..im not trying to crash any1's party.
