There is a 100% chance that Earth will be struck by an asteroid. Knowing which one, and when that particular one is gonna hit is the key to figuring out what, and if, we can do about it.
It would be nice if we could avoid the kinds of hellish catastrophes that marked the YD though, and I am encouraged that these folks are actually making an effort to prepare.
