My all-time favorite trip was the hike to Mt. Krn. This peak played a strategic role in the World War I on the Isonzo front. Strolling through these hills and mountains is like stepping into the history - trenches and bunkers are still here to see! In fact, the path to the top of the Mountain Krn is a military path or "muletiera" in Italian (the mule path - called so because all heavy load was transported to the top with mules).

It was a long way for me, being used to maximum 6-hour walks but I was determined to conquer it. We started off in a small town in the Soča Valley at the altitude of 189 m (620 ft) and our goal was the peak at 2244m (7362 ft). Soon after the start, we met this beauty along the way.

As we were rising, nature was getting more and more beautiful, as expected: limestone rocks covered in moss and other Alpine greenery...

This huge boulder (over 4m high) was split in two as if it was cut in half with the chainsaw. Amazing what nature can do!

When we reached the top after about 9 hours with nearly zero stops along the way (except for taking photos), the fog started to disappear and we were able to see another lake below and the mountain range nearby.DQmd9u4KWacjDV3FBXPGsvdqdQXQgcweQW3yQoVwDzWTGmL_1680x8400 (2).jpg

The fog didn't bother us much. It made one of the lakes along the way look really mystic and the green ferns seemed even more vivid.

There is so much more to see but I chose only the top images. I hope you enjoyed the post and I'd like to hear from fellow hikers as well!
