Hiking to Wolf Lake

in #nature6 years ago

Hey Steemians! Today's post is about a hike I took some years back up at the top of Sonora Pass. This was part of a Field Biology/Geology class I was taking at the time. We took off from the parking area at the top of the pass in the morning, setting off for Wolf Lake.

View from the top of Sonora Peak, 11,459 feet. Getting the whole class up this last steep section was challenging, but everyone made it. If you follow the ridge line down, you can barely see the road off to the left--that's where we started out.

Our first view of Wolf Lake as we leveled off at the top of the peak. From here it was a fairly short and easy hike down to the lake.

Hanging out at the lake, which had a few nice camp spots. Our class headed back out later that day though, hiking back to the parking lot, and down the pass to our camp near Kennedy Meadows. I remember a lot of people retired to their bunks late that afternoon, exhausted from the 10 mile hike--some didnt even wake up for dinner!
