How Nature Adapts!!!

in #nature6 years ago

Hey everyone, happy weekend to begin with! How was that BTC bouce? There are talks of another BTC Winter however any merit to that?? I really hope not, now to issues of a more happy tone! Interesting rather and happy, any guesses what this is??

That my good friends is an Heirloom carrot and my first grown in this configuration, but certainly not my last based on the successes of it and how it looks tastes etc.

I planted these a few months back, back then did not put them deep enough in the soil. This generally can be a problem in the beginning as if they are not handled with care watered with a light mist they break and die. I ticked all the boxes crossed all the T's and dotted all the I's by total 'flook' of course and look what happened.

The top half of the Carrot grew above ground, or top quarter actually, and bottom half grew underground, the most surprising realization here is the vast colour variation on the very same Carrot, how can this be? I am not sure but can only presume this is caused by sun exposure whilst the bottom half is in the ground where it should be?

Interestingly enough these Carrots grow much thicker and longer than their fully buried counterparts, could this be the secret to healthier larger Carrots? Who knows, but experiment I shall!

Here we have a beetroot? Nope this too is an heirloom Carrot, rather large and rather dark, could be a Nebula black Carrot they tend to get this size however this one may be a little too light, when I pull it will get a better look.

One of my more 'normal' looking Carrots and by more normal I mean 'Orange' unlike all the other weird and brilliant colours!

Half in half out and growing well!

I was going to omit this 'dodgy' badly taken pic, but the effect is kinda cool so decided to leave it in. You get the idea :)

Here we have the pic I actually tried to initially capture, in the backdrop my vegetable garden looking real nice and producing lots of healthy food daily!

Here we have two of my recently harvested Cayene Peppers, I like them green and be under no illusion these are just at hot green, just how I like them!

In the backdrop my fantastic Mielie crop will do an update soonest they look incredible and are growing very well too! At this rate I am convinced we will harvest in 6 weeks odd!

That all looks good! Nice work. Do you compost?
I'm a gardener who has recently moved from an apartment to a rented house with a yard. So this coming spring (March or so) I will be starting my first big garden here. Looking forward to having green things in my life again :)

Hey @drutter I have a disgusting secret. LOL well initially it disgusted me now I am totally amazed. Literally the best fertilizer EVER almost too good to be true. Urine and molasses and epson salts mixed with water. Check out a few of my posts 2-3 weeks back on Urine Fertilizer and youtube it you will be amazed really.. Cheer$;)

Hahah, that's cool. I haven't experimented with it myself but I've read a fair bit about it over the years. It is used fairly regularly in the underground cannabis growing community, for example. Urine is relatively clean (assuming the person doesn't have an infection or something) and is essentially just plant nutrients. There's no fertilizer left on the finished product, anyway.
I tend to compost my kitchen scraps, and being vegan, there are quite a few scraps that can be composted. Each year I end up with a good bin full of black gold to spread into the garden. I will mulch with the autumn leaves falling into the yard right now, so by spring I should have a good garden patch for growing my veggies etc :)

Hhehe nice one bruv, nice one ;)

Just as I was about to go vegan I hear people are putting urine on vegetables, I will just keep on eating meat now. sad face

LOL its sterile and you dont pee on it before you eat it brother.. It really is a miracle fertilizer ;P
