Hace un mes que empecé a ver algún ejemplar volando por los alrededores de mi casa pero cazando en mi jardín no la había visto aun. El verano pasado llegué a cazar un ejemplar de una avispa nueva que todavía no se cual es. La avispa asiática es muy grande. Llega a duplicar el tamaño del avispón europeo y a triplicar el de la avispa común.
A month ago I started to see some specimens flying around my house but hunting in my garden I hadn't seen them yet. Last summer I managed to catch a specimen of a new wasp which I still don't know what it is. The Asian wasp is very big. It is twice the size of the European hornet and three times the size of the common wasp.
Llega a mucha velocidad con un zumbido más sonoro de lo habitual entre los insectos, caza alguna abeja por la zona donde hay flores y se va hacia su nido. Entre esas fui lo suficientemente rápido para capturar una y a la vez salvar una pobre abeja.
It arrives at high speed with a louder than usual buzzing sound among the insects, hunts the occasional bee in the area where there are flowers and leaves for its nest. In between, I was fast enough to catch one and save a poor bee at the same time.

Y su defensa para posibles amenazas es su aguijón por el que inyecta su doloroso veneno. No me gustaría saber cuanto puede llegar a doler su picadura. Para mí la picadura de la avispa común duele bastante y se mantiene durante diez minutos. El avispón europeo llega a mantenerse durante una hora, así que ya os diré que de doloroso e intenso llega a ser la picadura de este nuevo insecto.
And its defence against possible threats is its stinger through which it injects its painful venom. I wouldn't like to know how much its sting can hurt. For me, the sting of the common wasp hurts quite a lot and lasts for ten minutes. The European hornet sting lasts for an hour, so I will tell you how painful and intense the sting of this new insect can be.
Los nidos son del tamaño de pelotas de baloncesto que por suerte no he visto ninguno. Me gusta revisar los alrededores de casa, pero los nidos que suelo ver son los de avispa común y de un tamaño pequeño. Es aconsejable revisar en primavera los parques cercanos para prevenir las picaduras en niños o personas alérgicas.
The nests are the size of basketballs and luckily I haven't seen any of them. I like to check around the house, but the nests I usually see are those of the common wasp and of a small size. It is advisable to check nearby parks in spring to prevent stings in children or people with allergies.
