It Has tubular eyes, very sensitive to light. Its main characteristic is that they are able to move in all directions, while in the other species the tubular eyes are fixed and are anchored to the skull. This makes it possible to expand the narrow field of view of the tubular eyes.
But to be able to move them in all directions it is necessary that the skull is transparent, being this the reason of so surprising adaptation to the life in the marine depths.

EL PEZ OJO BARRIL
El pequeño pez llamado “Ojoarril” es la única especie de pez que es reconocible por su cabeza totalmente transparente. Vive entre los 600 y 800 metros de profundidad y mide apenas cuatro y medio centímetros de longitud, los ojos son las dos esferas de color verde que se ven en el interior del cráneo transparente que apuntan hacia arriba. Su peculiar nombre “de “Ojobarril”, es porque sus ojos no son esféricos si no cilíndricos.
Dispone de unos ojos tubulares, muy sensibles a la luz. Su principal característica es que son capaces de moverse en todas direcciones, mientras que en las otras especies los ojos tubulares son fijos y están anclados al cráneo . Este hecho le permite ampliar el limitado campo de visión propio de los ojos tubulares.
Pero para poder moverlos en todas direcciones se necesita que el cráneo sea transparente, siendo este el motivo de tan sorprendente adaptación a la vida en las profundidades marinas
