These incredible landscape shots of the Halekala Volcano in Maui. It was below freezing on the top of the mountain before sunrise at 10,000 ft. We were glad we packed pants, jacket, rain gear. There was an amazing telescope on the top of Halekala that is used for deep space pictures. Maui is in the middle of the ocean and has less light pollution than anywhere in the US which is why they put it in Maui's highest peak
This is an incredible adventure. I highly recommend it to anyone who finds themselves on Maui looking for an adventure. Especially from the US, it's easy to get up at 3:00 am because we were on a 6 hr time difference from the east coast.

The telescopes on Maui are tasked with NEO (Near Earth Objects). Its funny that the movie Armageddon grossed well over $500,000,000 but the budget for the telescopes is $5,000,000. Crazy
