Markings : Black-and-white head stripes; pale grey face, neck, breast; pink bill.
Habitat : Thickets and hedgerows adjacent to fields, lawns with plantings.
Seasons : Chiefly spring and fall; winter mainly in South.
Range : Migrates throughout, but rare and local along coastal plain from Virginia to Florida; winters chiefly in c. and s. U.S., occasionally north to s. Great Lakes and Long Island.
Note : Immature - similar to adult but with brown and buff head stripes.
