Not bad for a crappy phone camera, right? At least considering how many times I dropped the dern thing.

I don't really see another option so I'll just keep taking pictures with it. Some of them might even be decent enough (mostly due to my good fortune in environment) to share with y'all in between more serious posts (I promise I have a couple in the works..).

Saw these guys a few weeks back. Thought it selfish not to share.

"The Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus canadensis nelsoni) is a subspecies of elk found in the Rocky Mountains and adjacent ranges of Western North America. The winter ranges are most common in open forests and floodplain marshes in the lower elevations..."

Beautiful animals. They seem to hang on the far side of this particular ranch all winter long. They use the valley conditions as shelter from alpine wind and eat grasses and tree bark from the surrounding wooded areas. Recently they've begun their migration to higher elevations.

There are six recognized subspecies of elk in America, and another four in Asia. There also appears to be a debate as to whether elk and Caspian red deer are variations of the same species, as they freely interbreed in captivity producing fertile offspring.

Until next time!
