The Roman theater was undoubtedly one of the places that intrigued me the most, mainly because we can still walk or sit and feel the sensation of where high levels of our history have passed culturally.
The theater, although weakened, is still possible, the main stones and some of the seats are still standing. It was built in the 1st century BC by Emperor Augustus. He has seen countless stories unfold beneath its ancient stones.

I walked around the seats for a while and felt as if I was in the presence of people from that era, laughing and applauding their performing arts.
From what we know to this day, it was the center of cultural activities at the time, where the arts were a discovery to entertain the people.

Over time, the theater fell into disrepair and was forgotten. The people who settled in that area (Andalusia), more precisely in Málaga, saw this as an opportunity to extract stones to build the imposing Alcazaba fortress, which is right next door.
It is still possible to see some untouchable columns from the old theater that still support the fortress.

The discovery only caused one problem: if they were to build the culture house in that location, it would be under a new construction. The solution was very controversial, it involved demolishing part of modernity to rescue antiquity.
The excavations gradually began to bear fruit.
The restoration was not easy and was only completed in 2011, as there were many pieces left to assemble, as part of them had been used in the neighboring Albazaza Fort.
It took 27 years of continuous work to show history to the people.

Personally, I applaud the fact that they did not destroy our past, but rather took care of it.
Now the Roman theater is available to visitors and they can also have the option of a guide and it costs just 15 euros for a guide.
offers an incredible window into our past.
The guide clarifies all your doubts in Spanish or English, in this case I chose Spanish because I understand it better, being very careful and careful when explaining even with some language barriers.
It's a great place to spend some time right in the center of the “old” city and even if it's just for a brief moment, I'm sure you won't remain indifferent.
