LeBron James, leads the vote for the NBA All-Star Game less than a week before fans close their votes.
James surpassed Yannis Antetokounmpo of Milwaukee and now surpasses him by more than 140,000 votes in the second ballot, published by the NBA on Thursday.
Stephen Curry, of Golden State, led the vote in the Western Conference, beating teammate Kevin Durant by more than 40,000 votes.
The leaders of each conference are important this season. Under a new format of the All-Star Game, the player who receives the most votes in each conference will serve as captain, choosing his team from the group of players voted as holders and reserves.
As in previous seasons, the holders will be determined by the vote of the fans as well as by a vote between the players and current media. Fans will represent 50 percent, while all current players and a media panel will represent 25 percent each. The voting will conclude on January 15.
The players will be ordered by conference and position (bases and interns), and the two best and three front-line players will be called starters. The NBA coaches will select the reserves. The two captains will then select a team based on the group of players.
In the Eastern Conference, James (1,622,838), Antetokounmpo (1,480,954) and Joel Embiid of Philadelphia were the three best internal players in the fan vote. Kristaps Porzingis of New York (640,928) was fourth. Kyrie Irving (1,370,643) and DeMar DeRozan (537,168) from Toronto were the two best bases. Ben Simmons of Philadelphia (397,942) was third.
