Naro Nuero Neuropathy

Or I don't have enough on my plate already.

Oy Vey! Where do I even start? First off, I know God has this. Let’s get that out of the way. Secondly, I am human and I am scared.

Many many moons ago, my paternal grandmother was diagnosed with many things. One of those things was neuropathy.

:Neuropathy is damage or dysfunction of one or more nerves that typically results in numbness, tingling, muscle weakness and pain in the affected area. Neuropathies frequently start in your hands and feet, but other parts of your body can be affected too. It’s a nasty little thing as these things go. I remember her falling and having trouble standing. It’s never an easy thing to watch. I’m sure there were other factors but, this is the one I remember.

I went and had myself tested many years ago. That doctor was the walking, talking epitome of a quack. So, I never got any real answers about it. It is something I have always feared that I would end up with one day.

I had a toenail issue about 2 months ago. It was not in great shape and I snagged it on something and ripped it most of the way down towards the toe. I went to urgent care and the Doc cleaned it up and said I should really go see a podiatrist. So, I did, worrying about all the things the urgent care guy said could be wrong. The podiatrist is a great guy. Very knowledgeable, very personable and put me at ease right away. He examined my feet and asked if I had diabetes, I said no, then asked if I had neuropathy, I also said no… silly me. Nothing else was said about it.

I had the follow up today. Again he asked about both and then did a test. Turns out I was wrong about the second one. The upshot is, I have to be very careful with my feet. Despite having “really good blood flow” I am at risk of cuts and whatnot leading to bad things, like infections. Because I can’t really feel my feet I have to be very diligent about foot care. I also should not be outside and barefoot anymore. Not a great loss as I don’t like that anyway. Although, at the beach this summer I may risk it :) It’s Cali after all. I am sure it’s a state law to go to the beaches here.

What does all this mean? I don’t even know how advanced or bad it is yet. Guess I get to make friends with another specialist now. Yay? It also means I have to start reading up on this stuff now as well.

Stay tuned, I will update as I know stuff.

As always, just my .02¢ worth, YMMV

Thanks for reading. God Bless and I love you all.
