Burger King launches powerful Net Neutrality Campaign

in #netneutrality6 years ago (edited)

If you have seen my other posts on net neutrality, you know I am a very big supporter of a free and open Internet for all. It sickens me that lobbyist has corrupted our government and allows Internet Service Providers to charge for the same bandwidth, many times over or to act as a censor on what media we can or should consume by using artificial speed limits on non-sponsored media sources.

If you are not in the USA, you likely have a choice on what Internet Service provider you choose and have better speed for far less than we do. You also not likely forced to purchase 300 useless channels in a TV bundle to get the 1-2 you want to watch.

The ad company behind the fantastic Anti-Bullying Ad created a new ad focused on Net Neutrality. I highly recommend you also check out the Anti-Bullying Ad as it is an equally large problem in the United States currently.

If you are not familiar with Net Neutrality, shame on you. Get familiar! This affects everyone, and will not be limited to just United States citizens.

Burger King chose one of their restaurants to perform an act of protest and raise awareness for Net Neutrality. Not only is it entertaining, it is a powerful message. I really hope it gets aired during the Superbowl to amplify the message.

Whopper Neutrality

Making Burgers Per Second

“We believe the internet should be like Burger King restaurants, a place that doesn’t prioritize and welcomes everyone,” says Fernando Machado, Burger King’s global chief marketing officer. “That is why we created this experiment, to call attention to the potential effects of net neutrality.”

The cost of our providers here in canaa are insane, phone internet TV, Ive done away with TV but I need my internet and gb on my phone.

I heard that cable companies are starting to hemorrhage clients in Canada in favor of people just having netflix and other various online streaming services. I'm quite surprised we haven't seen more change here.

I have done a complete 180 on this topic.. I really did have to think about it, it was not obvious. Jeffery Tucker spends enough time on the topic and addressed my concerns while adding clarity to the topic. I really like James Corbett too, I watch everything he produces..

No thanks, I gave up fast food a long time ago.

I agree. the fight for net neutrality is a paradox. Govt is corrupt and got rid of net neutrality, so we need government (who is corrupt) to regulate the internet. lol.

Net Neutrality isn't perfect, it puts control into the Government which has been proven to not give a shit time and time again, but if Internet Service Providers have free reign, they will do far more damage.

If lack of Net Neutrality allowed competition, I'd be all for it, but the Internet Service Providers have put laws in place via lobbyists that prevent anyone from competing with them. Now they will have no competition and free reign to manipulate what anyone has access and who can succeed by pushing down anyone that they don't agree with or doesn't pay them enough.

Yea, it ain't perfect, I see your concern. At some point people have to wake up to the legality of the laws them-selfs.. It ends when you can't find juries to convict on non-violent crimes. If it really did snow ball, it would be a good reason to try and move to p2p networks finally.

The ISPs are monopolies and have this control because of the government. They have melded with the state to create barriers to entry which are designed to stifle their competition. It is the opposite of a free market.

We need more ads like those!

That's very impressive. coming from king burger, i think the message will be clearer. Here, we have a choice on our service providers cos its morr than one! Though some are very epileptic. But i dont believe in the monopoly of the internet service business.its so large and cannot be handled by one company. Good job, king burger! I hope your campaign works.!

Good post @themarkymark. Well done

well, yes! we have the privilege of getting to choose what internet service provider we want to use but for the second point you mentioned, I think thats a bit general as we experience the same thing from where i come from. To get one or two TV channels you want, you will have to purchase along with it hundreds of other useless channels you dont want.

I live in canada.... watching hockey from my igloo, through our service providers, took my penguins last pennies

Epic comment.

Thank you. They definitely have the market cornered here.

Burger King should stick to burgers 🍔
This is pathetic government propaganda!
Government control of internet is not a good thing!

There can be no free market with the regulations in place to prevent it, so ISP's on their own will do far more damage than the government does.

In my country we have the privilege of choosing which service provider to use but that doesn't give us any advantage. This mainly due to the fact that service providers especially in the telecom industry all have very high non attrative billing rates, our choices are limited to speed.
Thanks for sharing the information. That is one very passionate add.

The corporate America, has sold out the people! Big names like Facebook, Google, Comcast, at&t, ect.., are all guilty! I don't see why the American people let this keep occurring, it's only hurting us in the end! So many sheep, and not enough wolves! image

It's sad huh, people are starting to wake up...may be too little too late for some

So surprising this happens in the usa, well here at Nigeria there are some decoders which we have to pay for over 100+ TV stations when we need less than 20 but your case over there seems more drastic with the issue of network providers

Thumbs up to you and burger King restaurant, I hope your message is passed across , have read all your other post big fan, Good morning here from Nigeria

thanks for sharing buddy :)

That's great of Burger king. I hope the message gets down to African countries here.

I really hope this ad gets much airtime and many views. We need Net Neutrality. Your are correct in that on what the lobbyist have done.

This whole issue gets me steaming angry. I simply cannot believe these a$$holes in government not only allowed this to happen, but supported it SHAME! Good on Burger King and good on you for keeping this topic alive. Hopefully it can be fixed.

I love this post
#Winks

oh my bad, do they really charge for wifi?
here it's free at every restaurant you go.

I think it's part of the campaign. They didn't charge more, they posted it like that, but when someone offered to pay the premium, they told them what was going on.

oh thanks for clearning misunderstang.

You have to buy the bundle of channels you don't watch in Canada too

i saw your past post and i think you are right... i enjoyed so much fun on your post.... thanks for sharing....

I hope your vision would reach our country, many internet providers are taking advantage of this.

I don't know if you have heard, but Kim Dotcom has thrown around the idea of replacing the internet with his version called the MegaNet. Kim Dotcom described his alternative internet idea as “indestructible, uncontrollable & encrypted." Hopefully he's successful then you won't have to beg and plead to the "masters" who write these laws on behalf of large corporations to give people fair access to the internet.

@themarkymark Great article! It's a very cool thing of Burger King to do such a thing- Yet I wonder, do customers pay extra now after net neutrality has been repealed. Ajit Pai said in his speech against net neutrality, that there won't be any extra costs to net users and that it is a mere myth surrounded to make internet users insecure of what is really going on.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like hm, especially not after how the votes ended. But I would like to know if anything as happened yet, and if so, what? I'm not living in the U.S. so we have to get our information from elsewhere like Instagram or Apps like Futurism.
Thanks for the answer!

Nothing has happened and I expect nothing will happen. Ajit Pai maybe a shill, but Netflix, YouTube, and Google are the just as big at spreading FUD

Ajit Pai is a Verizon shill. He says all kinds of bs.

I’m impressed!! Couldn’t imagine that Burger King will do something like this! I thought the only thing they care about is profitability

Good idea, disgusting food!

you are incredible

Question for you. Do you have a Discord or Twitter? There's something I want to ask privately.

I talked to another witness through the MSP, turns out my concern was over a false alarm. Disregard!

You do realize by being for net neutrality you're against a free and open internet right?

If you are for a free and open internet then you're against net neutrality like i am. Net neutrality is nothing more than government regulation of the internet.

If you are not in the USA, you likely have a choice on what Internet Service provider you choose and have better speed for far less than we do. You also not likely forced to purchase 300 useless channels in a TV bundle to get the 1-2 you want to watch.

You should check out sling, youtube tv (not sure this is the name) and playstation vue (again not sure if this is the name).

Net Neutrality provides some protections from Internet Service Providers doing more evil than they do now.

They have already proven they cannot be trusted and without any regulation, they will exploit users and businesses over and over.

IMO the main organization the has proven over and over again that it can't be trusted is the government.

I'm hoping that without all the red tape we will see the rise of some competition, but only time will tell who is right.

There can’t be competition, there are laws the lobbyists paid to get implemented that pretty much makes it illegal.

Net Neutrality regulations create far less damage than what service providers have done themselves.

Comcast has been rated #1 worst company in America for years for a reason.

Lol Amazon is pretty high up there with companies to work for. I don't think that's a reason to slap Amazon with regulations on how to run their business.

Government regulations shouldn't be implemented based on company work environment.

Strip the PR campaigns most people complain about working for Amazon.

But that’s not really relevant. ISP have already shown they will do anything they can to make money regardless of ethics or their customers. Allowing them to do what they feel like will destroy the open Internet we know now.

They will hold the keys if a company site can even be accessed and what media users can consume.

If they build an Amazon clone they can slow down Amazon unless they pay absurd privilege fees.

Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T are the most untrustworthy companies in America. They will use everything in their power to manipulate and take advantage of a users need for the Internet.

The Whopper Neutrality video is awesome! Really great way to explain how stupid of an idea it is, thank you for share. What a great educational tool.

this is hilarious... if i wanted to embed a video code into my posts how do i do that? can you show an example code? loved this post lol the burger king video is hilarious. typical america right lol
