Free advice for mini-minnows. Take it or leave it. You'd be mistaken to leave it though. Just sayin'

in #newbies7 years ago (edited)

Hey again, steemitizens!

Here's a tip.

I arrived here and got over 100 followers in 47 hours. I now have closer to 200, and I am now on day 4 as a registered user.

How you may ask, was this possible, when some take weeks and months to achieve this?

It's top secret!
So don't tell anyone this "one simple shocking trick" that I am about to share with you! :)

I simply opened the #introduceyourself tag page and started introducing myself BACK to other new comers. I've already made some great friends, seen some amazing content, and can easily see reaching 500 or even 1000 followers within 10 days or so, just by... wait for it.... drum roll.... being nice to people. Welcoming them and saying something kind about their posts. Noticing something about them and commenting on it. Stuff like that. It wasn't hard, and it's been fun.

Now I have already made some closer ties to the ones I have more in common with, and with just a half dozen of my own posts up, which I craft carefully, coming from decades of online writing and blogging experience, I have already made some pretty decent steem cheese as well as a result.

You can do this to, all by yourself, but it only works, if you work it. So go make some friends in the newcomer pool. Those minnows will grow to the size of their fish tank here and you'll be swimming with the whales in no time!

Drop me a comment and introduce yourself!
I guarantee you'll get one follower free if you do! (ME!)

And with that, this post is finished. Full steem ahead, steemitizens!

Yours in steem success!
@sircork

Hehe, I always answer the whale when I ask him for help to get me minnowing faster. LOL, I know no one will ever see it. It just makes me giggle.

Keep up the easy work! It works if you work it! Have fun and see you in the steem!

Your recipe to success is brilliant. It's something we all have to give -- kindness. Thanks for pointing out that it's just that easy. You're completely right. :)

In the immortal words of the good old grateful dead and Jerry Garcia...

"I ain't never been wrong, but I've never been right! Once in while, you get shown the light, in the strangest of places, if you look at it right!"

See you in the steem!

You seem like a happy chap, I'm in! If you follow me though, please read at least one of my posts. I'd like to know you find some value in my time/thoughts as I do yours! Thanks

Thanks, I'll take a look at your blog right now!

@sircork followed

Bout time! :P I followed you like... 190 seconds ago! What took you so long?

busy with Minnows kkkk

well played ;)

Beautiful post. Greatly appreciated and up voted.

I'm still getting over being quite timid online. I love to write... Well, at least sometimes.

But more I enjoy inspiring people to feel good in their own skin and have fun(I'm a DJ - on hiatus.) I'm thinking it might be time for a comeback though... so full steem ahead!!!

it takes a lot of backbone to admit to being timid. So you earned a PROTIP! :D Open your notepad and write a nice, fairly generic welcome to new minnows comment and save it. Then when you go "fishing" for new friends in the introduceyourself minnow pool, you can just cut and paste it, though I usually add some personalization to every single one. AND DONT misuse this power. Actually WANT to follow the person. I replied on average to about one out of five intro posts. People who actually entertained me introducing themselves. I skipped ones in languages I don't speak, because I'll never be able to read them anyway in the future and the ones that put no effort into it at all. But if you were real, and legit and tried to earnestly introduce yourself, you got my immediate follow. I can't wait to see what some of these fine folks produce!

Here is the message I use and tweak with each new use of it, for inspiration:

Welcome to steemit! I like to follow people all over the world, of all different ages. I read introduction posts and follow people who seem legit and real! You totally seem interesting! Following you to learn more about the world you live in and how you see it from your local perspective! I hope you will check out my posts too now and then!- @sircork - I've up voted and followed you!

Thanks for the tip! Very helpful. And inspiring! I feel more comfortable already. Namaste.

I guess I should go ahead and introduce myself first...

Ah heck Iko, we go WAY back to my childhood here, like 3 days ago already! Good to see you, and thanks for reading! Namaste yourself!

Absolutely! So far one of my favorite things is to graze over the intro posts! This is great advice! :)

FOLLOW AND UPVOTE WILL DO SO.
Thats the trick

i was actually on 47 on my reputation until someone flaged me over silly thing ,

My rep was up at 44 or 46 and now down to 43, not sure if I did something wrong, or if it fluctuates?

no some one would have flaged your post,or the cheetah bot would have found plagiarised content and spam

Interesting as I haven't plagerized or spammed! Hmmm

mmmm the whats happening koz mine was 47 it went down.Same pipo dont want us to be whales.

Yeah I'm still too new to completely understand, I guess. I'll just keep doing my thing and hope to pop out interesting content and meet new people!

Hello . My nake is @timmo3663. I have been here a few weeks and am loving the platform. My page The Southern Va Homestead is dedicated to chronicling ,y work as my wife and I remodel a home we recently purchased in Southern Virginia and establish a homestead there. I am an independant creative writer as well and feature Poems, Short stories and opinion pieces that I write periodically. I also write and produce a series titled EMP series which tells an ongoing story of a group of Christians stranded at a church after an EMP attack on our country renders all electrical systems inoperable. I narrate the story into a slide show and produce them on my Youtube channel. I have started posting them here as well. Thanks for allowing me to introduce myself and my page to you sir. i wish you the best here and look forward to viewing your future content also. I have upvoted and followed. Good day!!

Excellent! Pleased to meet you! I grew up in NORTHERN Virginia for roughly my first 30 years, and during that time went to school down in Southern Va in a town called Wise! I know Virginia pretty well. It's my hometown state, if that actually makes any sense?

Followed to find out your news! Thanks for reading and introducing yourself to me!

The best part about visiting the introduceyourself blogs is that you also fill your feed with people you find interesting. The followers and potential payouts are nice, but a well-curated feed is the biggest reward.

That is exactly the goal. I only followed about 1 in 5 on average, and they had to impress me to win my follow and comment. I am not suggesting follow spam at all, that's not good for anyone involved in any way at all.

Yeah...I've noticed a lot of bots/spam/copy-paste commenting lately, and it's obnoxious. And lazy, as you can build a pretty decent following from nothing with just a little effort.

Yep, I agree. It comes down to be real or you are wasting everybody's time, mostly your own.

Yep, if any of you need any more convincing, that's how I met @sircork, and I'm glad I have :) And kindness works, and seems to be all over Steemit, this is a fun place!

Aw shucks! Thanks @marty-art! Kindness DOES work, and it's up to all of us to keep it that way!

Things I can’t live without this time of year (mid June in the New Hampshire hills)

Water
It's gardening time and we grow a lot of veggies in order to supply the local soup kitchen as well as our own needs but rain is scarce in later summer and we do not want to run out of water for the garden and the house.

The pump on the well broke last year and we had 4 days with no water! That was so disturbing to live with that I now fear running out of water.

We save it when it rains in rain barrels and 5 gal buckets as it comes off the roof.
No amount of steem can buy water.

I have no plumbing on my place, and haul water in buckets from a natural mountain spring that surfaces a solid 100 feet down a 45 degree mountain side hill from my cabin. It's no picnic, especially in the winter when it hits the low teens daily up here in the Blue Ridge. Water is critical, and I feel your pain. A well would be like city living for me. I did live at a place with a well 4 or 5 years ago renting on a friends land while I shopped for my acreage and our well froze and broke in the winter regularly, no matter how much we insulated it, left it running, etc. Wells are pain in the ass, but I sure wish I had one most days.

I collect rain water too, for gardening, dishes, the dogs and things like that, just to have a source a bit closer to the cabin now and then. Thanks for sharing a thing you didn't know we would end up having in common, and your free follow has been made! See you in the steem!

Even with living in town, I collect as much rain as I can for my garden. When we get a dry spell I can go through a lot of water in a few days of watering. Right now, I can collect and hold about 550 gallons total.
I try not to use any city water for the garden, it costs too much.

Good planning! Keep it up!

Excellent way to live. Takes a lot of energy though and we are now retired and don't have that kind of energy anymore. Just keeping up with our garden and orchards is a lot of work for us.
We have solar panels that provide some of our electricity.
My husband is looking into mining but that will take a lot of electricity.

A goal is to be able to live off our land but unless the crunch comes I don't see it happening until we have to.

How do you have electricty to be on the internet?

I like that advice, always try to be nice.

It's advice that will almost never steer you wrong. Following to see if you are always trying to be nice :)

Already followed.

Likewise, apparently! :) I suspect I found you by following my own advice! :) Hope you are having fun here. See you in the steem!

What a great post, @sircork. I'm bumbling thru trying to learn the Steemit platform. I try to act on any tips like this to see if I can grow. I'm going to follow, and upvote this. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for finding me and reading this post! Keep bumbling, it's the best way to learn, because if you weren't bumbling around, you wouldn't ever get anywhere at all! I've given you a follow and will watch for you in my steem feeds! Have fun! Be nice! And you'll be jammin in no time!

Awww...you are much appreciated @sircork!

Likewise @sarkhomestead ! Looking forward to seeing your posts in the steem!

Welcome to steemit community.
I’m @jyoungking2 Start by following people and they will do the same.
Good Luck

Yes, this is a great summary of what I was trying to suggest with the post, and while I cannot actually READ any of your posts in a language I am not equipped to speak, I can see you are catching up to me in followers already, so you are doing just fine!

thats some nice numbers within a week. been kinda struggling to get followers, now i know how to. thanks for the post, heading over to the introduceyourself section.lol

Just don't abuse it, pick people you'd really like to follow, and welcome them honestly. We were all new like twenty seconds ago ourselves, right? We all need friends here. Choose wisely! It will pay off in many kinds of ways!

This is a great idea for getting followers! I hadn't thought of that.
Something that inspired me...watching America's got tallent and Britain's got talent on youtube and seeing the really good singers impress the judges.
Most of what I write about on my page has to do with my garden, but I'm always looking for other material to add some variety to my posts.

Find your niche. Find your voice. Your followers will then find you!
