This is perfectly okay. It just needs to be understood that the goal has to be something larger than just communicating with the politician in question, especially with representatives like him: They don't do what they do out of ignorance.
Ted Cruz is an intelligent, educated man who's successfully competed in debating championships on the national level. He'd never have been able to successfully complete his educational track with honors if he didn't have a sharp, analytical mind with a sense for fine nuances. He knows exactly what he's doing.
People like him aren't stupid. They choose to be morally reprehensible.
