Tear gas is indiscriminate, that's a really important point as it affects all in the vicinity. Another banned chemical weapon is white phosphorous which was employed by the IDF in Gaza and by US forces in Falluja. The justification for using the weapon is that it is a "dual purpose" weapon used to illuminate the battlefield, but the damage it does to human flesh is nightmarish.
