Thought we were done bragging about BTS after they rocked the UN headquarters last week, speaking on the importance of taking action on the climate crisis and COVID-19 pandemic? Well, think again, because the Bangtan Boys aren’t even close to being done making the world a better place.
This week, the Korean boy band — composed of RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook — made waves at Global Citizen Live with a special performance of “Permission to Dance” from Seoul.
Kicking off the once-in-a-generation broadcast special that traveled across all seven continents, the band once again showed how they take action on today’s most pressing global issues. And they did it in true BTS fashion, and welcomed masked back-up dancers to perform with them!
With international crises like the COVID-19 pandemic and climate change threatening people around the world, each member of BTS has consistently shown their commitment to defending the planet and defeating poverty.
At the start of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) last week, BTS joined President of South Korea Moon Jae-in to spotlight the importance of youth activism for the future of the world. Instead of focusing on how the COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted our next generation of leaders, though, BTS decided to flip the script and show how resilient today’s youth truly are in the face of adversity.
“We think that instead of the ‘Lost Generation,’ a more appropriate name would be the ‘Welcome Generation,’ because instead of fearing change, this generation says, ‘Welcome!’ and keeps forging ahead," BTS member Jin said in opening remarks at the Sustainable Development Goals Moment.
From speaking up on the ills of racism and xenophobia to supporting health care access for low-income families, BTS takes their advocacy from the stage to the people. And by joining the all-star lineup for Global Citizen Live, they’ve proven just how far they're willing to go to make the world a more just and equitable place for all.
Global Citizen Live united artists, activists, and corporations around the world to take action on climate change, world hunger, and vaccine access, welcoming BTS in Seoul before jamming out to Jennifer Lopez in New York.
And while the world looked on, the once-in-a-generation broadcast special also secured billions of dollars from governments and corporations to tackle today’s most pressing global issues, including climate change, famine, and vaccine inequality.
