And we're back!

in #news6 years ago

It's been about a week since @engadgetnews posted, and some of you have noticed!

Don't worry, we just needed to establish some guidelines for our experiment here on the Steem blockchain, so let's get right to it.

Going forward, @engadgetnews will post a mix of things on the Steem blockchain, including links back to stories, embedded YouTube videos, native D.Tube videos, Steepshot photography, and more. However, our posts will be configured to decline a reward for the foreseeable future. When we decide what to post and how, those decisions will be based on community feedback.

Of course, some of these decisions deviate from conventional posting strategy on Steem. As with all new social and publishing platforms, the goal is to find out what works and how best to serve that platform's unique audience. So that's what we're going to do!

As always, keep it funky Steemians. See you on the blockchain ✌️

Sort:

i think that declining rewards is admirable, but misguided

one of the major incentives for users to curate is to earn a reward doing so. declining post payouts removes this incentive.

this is why the number of votes and engagement fell after @engadgetnews made that decision to decline payouts...

if you really just don't want to receive the payouts, its far better for both 1) you and 2) the steem ecosystem for you to enable post payouts, and then just invest the proceeds back into steem by sponsoring cool projects or apps or coding initiatives.

its better for you because your posts will receive more traffic. every steem front-end (like steemit.com) is programmed to place highly upvoted posts in front of users.

its better for steem because your payouts can be used to finance the efforts of open source developers and app developers who make this a deeper ecosystem.

doing this really locks you out of the whole steem process, like i said, i get it. it seems like the admirable thing to do... but its really just unplugging yourself from the steem engine

Declining reward? Strange.

Yeah, I've love to know the reasons for this... it's amazing.. but I have no idea why you'd make that decision.

I also wish Engadget would upvote comments more. They have the SP now! Curation is king on Steemit!

Noted!

Thanks Evan. As you know Steem thrives on curation as much or more than article creation! Engadget will be a Whale quickly and can do a lot of good redistributing the wealth! Set an example for future publications here. You are a pioneer and leader!

That's a good point... they could fairly easily set up the automatic upvote comments in SteemAuto if they didn't want to employ a community manager.

Great to have you back. Looking forward to more updates on your Engadget blockchain media experiment. I think the current advertiser-supported model for media is fundamentally broken, so I've started to follow your new crypto model with great interest.

As a few other comments stated, I think declining payouts isn't the best plan, a better one would be to set payouts to 100% Steem Power(SP) and reward their audience with insightful comments and feedback. I hope you all have this on your agenda for your next meeting. 😊

Glad to have you guys here. The things you bring to the steemit table cannot be overstated. I sincerely hope you enjoy this blockchain as much as I have. Obviously you see its potential that's why you're here, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the community we have here and the amount of work and dedication being put into developing the blockchain. Cheers.

Oh and also, I think it's nice that you're choosing to decline rewards for the meantime.

you could enable the rewards if you write about someone else's content and then send them the rewards of your post if they have a steemit account. i think this would be fair and transparent as you earn the sp for spreading the word and they earn the sbd for letting you "resteem"/write about their content (of course just if this is in the will of the original creator of the content).

you could also try to find great but overlooked content on steemit that fits to your strategy to get more connected to the steemit community and write about it.

just my thoughts

Thank God you are back i will alwaysbe by your side .
You are welcome back

It seems like I’m not the only one confused by the decision to decline payouts. Could you explain the reasoning behind the decision? It just seems really strange for a tech blog to not take advantage of new technology and not be a trailblazer in a new revenue generation strategy.

sorry—if I were at liberty to provide the granular details I absolutely would :)

I like the experimental approach. It will be interesting to see what mixture of content works best. I am a big engadget fan and am glad to be able to follow on steem.
