in #news6 years ago (edited)

Four days ago,the World Bank Group (Nigeria) Director - Mr.Rachid Benmessaoud-stated at the Ideas for Action Africa that the World Bank Group has allocated over U.S.$14Billion to assist in boosting the economic activities in economically weak African countries in order to meet its set goals and the 2030 Agenda under the International Development Association for fragile nations in Africa. Mr.Rachid Benmessaoud said that the World Bank Group would continue to find new /innovative ways to boost the sharing of wealth equitably and eradicate poverty in these uncertain economic times in order to attain the Sustainable Development Goals. He also stated that we are living in a time of multiple overlapping challenges such as:threats of famine, climate change, epidemics, violence (domestic and inter-cultural),communal conflicts and increased vulnerability to natural disasters.

Also speaking at the Ideas for Action Africa was Professor Peter Azikiwe Onwalu of the African University of Science and Technology who urged African youths to do more research work on how to solve African challenges in the 21st century.
In his presentation titled: "Development through inclusive technology:the Role of the youth in African Development", Dr.Emeka Nwachinemere Obewe, who was also a speaker at the event advocated inclusive science and technology as the key to achieving SDG goals especially in critical areas such as: youth unemployment, infrastructural deficits, food insecurity and lack of accountability in governance in sub-Saharan Africa.

I strongly believe that the U.S$14Billion support to 'economically weak' African nations will go a long way to ameliorating the plight of the 'impoverished','needy','desperate/ despondent and unemployed youth' and derrided adoescent of sub-Saharan Africa. What do you think? Do you think that financial aids from international agencies,World powers/ Western countries has done much more harm than good to countries on the African continent?

Is this so-called assistance free?
These are loans that sink the economy of these countries the more because most times, they can't pay back.
