Mobile phone users looking to switch carriers while retaining their numbers could face difficulties after March next year. Mobile number portability (MNP), as it’s known, is currently functioning smoothly but the two companies that carry out the service in India — MNP Interconnection Telecom Solutions and Syniverse Technologies — have written to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that the near-80% reduction in porting fees since January has led to daily losses and will force them to shut services once their licence terms come to an end in March 2019, said people with knowledge of the matter.
If they follow through with their threats, customers who want to change their service provider due to poor call quality, billing issues or tariffs will be left with no option to do so — at least in the near term. India has implemented the policy to protect consumers and ensure service quality is maintained amid industry consolidation.

That's sad though nothing bad in that. No company can run in loss and that's their decision if they are shuting down. Though I just got my whole family port their phone no.s to Jio after reading this article thanks to you :P
Great article man thanks for the knowledge!
