Cocaine and bribes: an expert described how criminals in Ukraine use Bitcoin

Crypto currency in Ukraine does not have legal status, therefore they can be considered as one of the ways to conceal income and avoid taxation. This opinion was expressed by the communication manager of the Center for Social and Economic Research "CASE Ukraine" Nikolai Malukha.

"If we talk about bitcoins, then it's very difficult to determine who conducted the transactions, and if we talk about such crypto-currencies as Dash (Dash), it's almost impossible to establish, because the level of anonymity is much higher there than in bitcoins. , if a person wants to get a bribe or sell a kilogram of cocaine, then in this case, of course, he will prefer calculating crypto-currencies, not cash, and even more bank transfers. "In this respect, the crypto currency really opens the possibility of using unclean people's hands this tool, "- says Malukha.

According to him, also with the help of crypto-currencies, it is really possible to "beat off" from tax issues about the origin of capital. Malukha notes that officials who are impure can say that they simply "successfully invested in crypto-currencies."

At the same time, the marketer of Bitcoin Agency KUNA Vadim Popov believes that the danger of crypto currency as a tool for illegal operations is exaggerated. According to him, it is not very helpful to commit illegal financial transactions and to go unpunished with crypto currency - it is difficult to convert ordinary money into "crypto" and vice versa.

Recall, earlier in the Verkhovna Rada proposed to legitimize the status of the crypto currency, but none of the bills have received support in the market. The Ukrainian cyberpolicy calls upon all authorized bodies to determine as soon as possible the legal status of crypto-currencies or to prohibit them, since in other cases "new money" threatens security in the country.
