China orders demolition of half of world’s largest Tibetan Buddhist institute

in #news8 years ago

The Chinese government has demanded the removal of more than 5,000 monks and nuns from Larung Gar Buddhist Academy, and plans to demolish 50 percent of residences at the historic monastery.

According to Free Tibet, some residences have already been destroyed, and the government has threatened to demolish the entire monastery if Larung Gar’s religious authorities don’t comply with the demands.

My opinion on this: The Chinese government is a tyranny. Their demands are ridiculous and these officials' cavalier refusal to give a real reason for this order is especially disgusting. Human Rights Watch says this may stem from concerns about overpopulation and risk of fire in the area, but given the regime's attitude toward its own people's living conditions and basic freedoms, I find this hard to believe. I hope residents of the monastery will peacefully defy the order, as one student at Larung Gar suggested.

Holy fuck, that's disheartening to hear...I wouldn't defy the Chinese government though, that would definitely cause death to them :/

Not happy about this!! :( Where is the outcry?

This is so saddening. 50% of a historic site is huge. I agree with @gsus. Defying the Chinese government is a free-way ticket to more suffering. Hopefully, better resettlements plans have been made.

Please take a minute and watch all 27 chapters (lol, they are not that long). It is all about the US, but trust me it is so basic this applies to the people and the government. The fundamentals here apply to all humans and their birth rights.

Here is what I see. Most people are seeing the governments in the wrong way. We need to be educated on what they government is for, why we formed them, and how to maintain them. You'll start to see the people and states have a duty to regulate all branches of the government (not the other way around). I think we need to do a full 180 degree turn here. Take a moment here, most places don't teach this in school (that is about to change though). Here is the link:

I think they need to be smart here and defy the aggressors but live to fight another day. They need the masses to help them.
