BTC-e associated with arrest in Greece - in the case of money laundering through bitcoin

One of the world's oldest bitcoin exchanges is off for more than one day, and the latest news is trying to relate this to the arrest made this morning in Greece.

Against the backdrop of a black market btc users are inclined to link two stories, suggesting that one of the operators of the bitcoin of the BTC-e exchange, long known for its mysterious operations and information closures, was arrested.

Among the conjectures is that the name of one of the administrators of the site, known as Alexander, coincides with the name of the person arrested in Greece. There was arrested 38-year-old Alexander Vinnik, who, according to the authorities, laundered "$ 4 billion in cash - via bitcoin platform, starting in 2011".

It is noteworthy that BTC-e preferred to keep silent about similar problems. The last tweet from the exchange was 20 hours ago, where it was reported that "unscheduled maintenance work" was continuing.

Earlier, BTC-e stated that it was processing data, and that access would be limited. The site remains unavailable, although the service page is currently displayed along with the latest tweets of the stock exchange.

Despite the fact that BTC-e has already gone offline in the past, this trip caused a special concern over night reports that coins connected to BTC-e purses disappeared.

A representative of BTC-e did not answer the request via Skype.

Vinnik, according to available information, was detained for money laundering, criminal conspiracy and dealings with cash received illegally. The US authorities are said to be extraditing him on the basis of a warrant issued earlier this year in California.

According to Reuters, Vinnik "is connected with the BTC-e crypto exchange".

Note that this arrest occurs against the backdrop of more severe harsh measures that led to the closure of AlphaBay and Hansa - two of the most popular dark online markets in the world.

Honestly I dont see why the Mafia hasnt invested in buying alot and by alot I mean millions into miners? Then all the crypto coins that have been mined are completely clean. I dont get it maybe that idea is flawed but I think it could work.

Mafia it is everywhere ....
