The largest supermarket chain in the UK was left with a red face this week after hackers seized their Twitter account to perform a bitcoin scam (BTC). The news came to light through the computer magazine Bleeping Computer on June 25. Tesco, which has almost 550,000 followers on Twitter, lost control of its account and began to claim that it would give away bitcoins in exchange for investments. The hackers seemed to have affinity with the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, using his avatar and changing the handle of Tesco to **"Billgatesmsc"**.

"Bitcoin is on the rise again! One day, without a doubt, it will replace the fiat currencies", was read in a deleted tweet, in a style that closely mimicked previous scams involving ethereum (ETH) and that They invaded Twitter last year.
"I would like to return to the community, therefore, any bitcoin sent to this address, I will return it to double! Comment your BTC address below when you're done. "
The address that the hackers provided never received funds. Subsequently, Tesco regained access to his account, eliminating all traces of the episode.
It is unknown how hackers managed to compromise the account.
The moment seemed deliberate; As Cointelegraph continues to report, bitcoin is currently trading at its highest level since the end of its record bull market of December 2017.
The cryptocurrency has returned widely to public consciousness, thanks mainly to the increase in media coverage.
"It's been a month since this new wave of scammers started again, the last time was between August and December 2017," Andreas Antonopoulos, educator and author of "Mastering Bitcoin," wrote last week about the growing prevalence of scammers this year.
"The price drop in crypts made them disappear, but now they are back."
Meanwhile, scams such as Tesco continue to appear outside the crypto industry, with the Swedish government being another recent victim. In April, the attackers managed to tweet that the country had changed its official currency to bitcoin.
In a later interview, the official told the local press, Trijo,** that personal political inclinations formed his motivation to compromise the Twitter page of the Social Democrats .**
