An Act of Treason?

in #news7 years ago

The curious case of Michelle DeBois, a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Did she commit treason? Maybe not. Did she break the law? Probably.

On March 28, 2017 Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson spoke before a U.S. Congressional Committee. He summarizes the immigration issues in the U.S. including so called sanctuary cities and discusses new methods of coordination between local departments and ICE. Relevant here however, he goes on to address the actions of Representative Michelle DuBois, the morning of the hearing.

Rep. DeBois posted the following on Facebook.

She deleted the post shortly thereafter, but later defended herself having posted it in the first place, according to The Washington Times.

Backlash from law enforcement continued when, during an interview with Fox News, Don Bongino a former NYPD officer and U.S. secret service agent, expressed concern over the dangers to law enforcement that actions such as hers may pose. He went on to clarify that local law enforcement is expected to continue cooperating with the federal government directly, regardless of the will of state politicians. ICE also condemned her actions and further clarified that the agency “does not conduct random sweeps.”

The relevant legal statutes are shown in the links below.

8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens
18 U.S. Code Chapter 115 - TREASON, SEDITION, AND SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITIES
