Swimming Pools- Behind The Scene, Part 1

in #news6 years ago

Little do most swimmers(or persons who love swimming) if not all know what happens behind the scenes of maintaining a swimming pool- the course of making it safe for swimming.
One aspect of a swimming pool maintenance is test for pH and chlorine level.

Test For pH and Chlorine Level

This is done with the aid of a swimming pool accessory known as test kit.

Test For pH

The procedures to be followed:

  • Rinse the test tubes and fill up to the mark with water sample that is the pool's water.

  • Add four(4) drops each of red phenol solution(pH) & orthotolidine(chlorine) into test tubes respectively.

After shake

  • Then compare the readings( the color results after shake) with the scale value on the test kit.

Important Notes:

  • Water samples should be taken from at least 40cm below the water surface for effective test results.
  • For comfortable water & for a saving of chemical products, ideal pH & chlorine should be between 7.2 to 7.6 and 1.0 & 1.5 respectively.
  • Should the readings not fall into the recommended ideal values, there are chemicals or pool products to correct this.
