Google bans digital coin mining extensions from the web store after ignoring '90%' policy news
Google announced it was withdrawing its digital currency mining from Chrome's Web Store on April 2 after 90% failed to comply with the rules.

In a blog post, the director of extension products, James Wagner, said the move was in response to an analysis of the "hidden mining" in the extensions.

The term refers to the situation where users inadvertently download an extension of any kind and the mining process begins without their consent.

"Over the past few months, there has been an increase in malicious extensions that appear to provide useful functions on the surface, while incorporating hidden mining texts into digital currencies operating in the background," claims Wagner.

Although Google previously allowed custom currency mining, it will now ban new candidates from accessing the Web Store, as well as removing current accounts by June.

Only one out of 10 mining extensions was committed to Chrome's detection policies, according to Wagner.

"Unfortunately, nearly 90 percent of all extensions containing mining texts that developers tried to upload to Chrome's Web Store did not comply with these policies and were either rejected or removed from the store," he said.

June is also the beginning of Google's other, more controversial digital currency embargo, which refers to digital currency ads, which will disappear from Google Adwords.
