Jim Carrey Urgers People to Delete Thier Facebook Accouts

in #news6 years ago

Jim Carrey is quitting Facebook and dumping his stock -- and and is urging everyone else to do so as well.

Facebook kind of sucks, whether it’s because of the way it’s constantly fumbling with its attempts to curb the spread of “fake news,” banning the wrong people because of complicated and easily manipulated policies, or attempting to convince us now to worry about the threat of malevolent AIs, but most of us lack the conviction to actually do something about Facebook. Instead, we just continue checking out feeds habitually, ignoring the nice things our friends say and getting annoyed by the political views of our relatives. Jim Carrey isn’t most people, as indicated by his occasional forays into anti-vaccine idiocy, and now his hatred of Facebook has grown so strong that he’s trying to organise a boycott of the social media service.

Jim Carrey tweeted on Tuesday he was selling his Facebook sock and deleting his page because the company profited from Russian interference during the 2016 U.S. election

Facebook has admitted up to 126 million people saw Russian- bought ads intended to sway the 2016 U.S. election. The company has also said its algorithms recommended content created by Russian operatives. Initially CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the idea of Facebook impacting the elections was "crazy," but later apologised for dismissing the real concerns."For a long time America enjoyed a geographical advantage in the world with oceans on both sides to protect it," Carrey said. "Now, social media has created cyber-bridges over which those who do not have our best interest in mind can cross and we are allowing it. No wall is going to protect us from that."Facebook did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
