I agree completely that, more often than not, the things that really matter, things that really affect us all are not permitted to be printed/broadcast in corporate media.
The Media tells us several things - WHAT to think, WHAT to talk about, WHAT the most important issues are, and frames it in such a way that it also influences HOW we think of the news they present to us. They (institutional media) control the perimeters of public discourse - what is permitted and what is not.
