Andrew Yang Advocates for Blockchain-based US Elections

in #news5 years ago

One of the 2020 US presidential
candidates for the Democratic Party, Andrew Yang is advocating for blockchain-based
mobile voting for the upcoming elections. Yang who is a pro blockchain advocate
believes that blockchain tech has matured to a point where it can be used to
facilitate fraud- and stress-free elections. According to Yang’s website, Americans
should be able to vote with their mobile devices, using blockchain to
authenticate the process.

Considering the fact that there were rumors of Russia’s involvement in the last US presidential election, Yang believes that most voting machines are vulnerable to hacks and that implementing a blockchain solution may eliminate security risks. Yang noted:

It’s ridiculous that in 2020 we are still standing in line for hours to vote in antiquated voting booths. It is 100% technically possible to have fraud-proof voting on our mobile phones today using the blockchain. This would revolutionize true democracy and increase participation to include all Americans - those without smartphones could use the legacy system and lines would be very short.

As part of the benefits of using blockchain tech, Yang believes that blockchain will help simplify the process, restore confidence and encourage participation, as well as reduce inconsistent processes between states.

Whilst the US has maintained a rather stringent stance on cryptocurrencies and ICOs, forcing a lot of blockchain businesses to restrict US citizens, a pro blockchain stance is definitely a good publicity for the tech.
