The New Zealand Maori new year has begun and the celebrations through out New Zealand have also commenced.
Matariki (Mar-tar-ree-kee) as its more formally known , is the Maori name for the star cluster known as the Pleaides. That rises for us in mid winter.
Though the stories vary about Matariki from tribe to tribe. Most focus around Matariki being a Mother and her daughters. Matariki, and her daughters are Tupu-ā-nuku, Tupu-ā-rangi, Waipunarangi, Waitī, Waitā, and Ururangi
