Building ships is a high priority.
Higher mine levels make you a target, in some neighborhoods.
I got the explorer, found a planet, and now need the transporter, but i am weeks away from that.
Have you looked at the galaxy around you?
If it's unexplored, no need to hurry.
I think starting the big ships first could help later due to the multiple day wait times.
They carry stuff, too.
