## WHY???????????????????????
Speculators, celebrities, 10K PFP devs and a select few artists are getting the lion’s share of the profits from the NFT space. Most artists are getting a few peanuts. It’s quite simple why I priced a few of my paintings at $1 Million: I believe that’s what they are actually worth.
LONG VERSION
By the way, PFP means “Profile Picture”. 10K is the number that most of these algorithmically generated projects create.
Most of the massive profits in the NFT space are being captured by devs of 10K PFP projects that spit out algorithmically created NFTs which follow the basic Hype Formula:
- Run massive marketing campaign about pre-reveal art
- Get 200,000 buyers to join your Discord
- Hype non-stop and release Roadmap
- Make everyone believe they are going to 10X their mint price.
- Profit.
- Slowly forget project.
- Rinse & Repeat.
The vast majority of 10K PFPs are massively hyped in the short-term but I think lack substance or historical significance in the long-term.
Last I heard: 78% of all NFT sales were from 10K PFP projects. I’m happy that NFTs went mainstream in 2021 as I have dedicated the last 5 years to helping build the crypto art ecosystem. Starting in 2017 I founded Slothicorn (on Steem now Hive), one of the first crypto artist collectives that paid crypto to artists and educated them about crypto art. I’ve been actively researching the crypto art ecosystem for five years. People may not know who I am as I usually don’t actively flex on Twitter, but I see my days as a humble intellectual artist/writer are coming to an end. The recent 10K PFP Plague has awakened my more monstrous psychological qualities, and now I understand that in order to thrive, I’m gonna have to start flexing more and thinking less. I am here for it.
“Cash Grab” is the soup du jour in 2021.
People aren’t even hiding this fact anymore. It’s right there in your face, clear as a bell. You can see FOMO every day on Twitter, as people jump from one 10K PFP to the next, hoping to gain massive profits along the way, just like the early holders of CryptoPunks and Bored Apes did months and years ago. I can’t really blame anyone, that is the fundamental core of humans: we all want to 10X. We want to 10X everything. I am the same.
When we trace it back, we can see Bored Apes was really the project that influenced the birth of the 10K PFP Cambrian explosion, with its characteristic cereal box-inspired Fiverr art style. And Bored Apes got its inspiration and formula from CryptoPunks. And CryptoPunks came after Rare Pepe.
In those days, the devs of CryptoPunks were kind of begging the Rare Pepe community people to pay attention to them. Rare Pepe was a thriving community of artists, enthusiasts and creators, all of whom were creating meme art for themselves and others. It is and remains to be the original formula for long-term NFT health: organically build a community over years around an internet meme.
CryptoStellas is my labor of love project that will take about one year to complete. It has literally been in the making for 5 years, when I entered the world of crypto art (that was before Bored Apes and CryptoPunks).
Each CryptoStella is hand-painted (on the computer) and takes between 2 and 10 hours to create. I have some big plans for CryptoStellas holders, and I can reveal that at Christmas, the first 52 holders will be getting presents. What I mean when I say “holder” is that you have to be holding your CryptoStella in your wallet on December 1, 2021 in order to qualify for getting a present. So that is CryptoStella #1- #52. So if you originally bought a CryptoStella at the beginning but sold it on November 29, you won’t qualify. You have to be holding it in your wallet on December 1, 2021 and it has to be one of the first 52 CryptoStellas.
I have lots of other plans in the works also, but until I solidify something in reality, I don’t want to announce it. You know, for real artists, roadmaps are exceedingly difficult. That's because our brains are wired in a more organic and spontaneous way. Also, I don't like to promise things.
My mantra is to underpromise and overdeliver. But if you are smart enough to study my history (creating ciphers, tons of crazy "for the fuck of it" concepts) you will be able to put 2 and 2 together. This is a year-long project and I don’t intend on half-assing it.
