I paid 6300 Hive for a Hive Folk NFT, almost, but seriously WHAT A WAKE UP CALL

in #nfts2 years ago

I've happily supported many projects on Hive over the years, so I was happy enough to spunk 80 Hive on one @dlux Hive Folk NFT, I have played around with Dlux before (I'm one of the very few to have done so I think) and I've got more DLUX than most for sure, so this was a trusted source.

Hive folks are limited edition NFTs, some (I think it's some, it might be all of them) of which are based on various accounts on the Hive blockchain. The announcement post is here.

So i clicked on the option on the Dlux site to purchase one for 80 Hive, and then duly had a quick look on Hiveblocks to check and see if the tx had gone through.

Imagine my surprise when I saw that I'd transferred 6300 Hive to the dlux community account.

I got a refund sharpish, but I ended up with 3 NFTs rather than one (the max mint was three), there were offers to buy back but I decided I may as well hang on to all three, you never know.

But honestly, trust and refund and 'not that much harm done' what an absolute shit show this was.

And a reminder to be VERY careful when you're clicking on anything - just because an app says 'pay 80 Hive', this doesn't mean that's what's occurring in the back end.

At the end end of the day it's been a useful reminder for me to remove some of my liquid hive to an account I use less often, that way with the next project I want to support, I simply won't have the liquid funds available to make such ridiculous transfers.

As the the NFTs - I got three, I'm not sure if two of them are supposed to be people, but I recognise @isaria, not a bad Face to pick up!

Sort:

That is such a big amount to be paid.
lucky you got refunded, but they are really can be trusted and should have fixed the problem ifthe mistake is on their side.

it is better to put the liquid crypto somewhere safe.

They did fix the problem, within minutes of it being reported and with a crowd of people who didn't have the problem watching.

Yes in fairness they did sort it out quickly, but even so!

I bought a few right off the bat, worked perfectly.

6300 Hive is almost 10K.. so NFT is really making craze in this blockchain.
Which NFT was that?

That was a mistake, it wasn't the literal price...

Hive Folks, just another thang!

This makes me remember a post I stumbled on recently, Uhm, by @edicted. It's never a good idea to have too much in one place, having it spread makes it safer

Oh yes a great use for your alt account for sure, to store some Hive!

Oh man! That would be about 6 times the total I own 😅

Wow, that was a big slip-up somewhere. Any idea why it charged so much? I don't generally keep much liquid, so I have to scrape some together to buy a pack. Didn't get the card with me on though.

It was just a complete fuck up on their part I guess - the button said 80 somewhere in the background you 'send all' apparently whatever I sent was their auto limit.

The chances of getting yourself are quite remote!

This is why I am reluctant to develop apps with financial aspects. Lots of potential for making people angry.

When I minted mine, the transaction simply didn't go through the first two times. As if my click hadn't been registered at all. Even at my third attempt it appeared to behave in the same way, except for my balance was 80 HIVE lower. Fortunately my liquidity was at 83 HIVE to begin with, so I couldn't have transferred any more, even if I wanted to. But certainly, thanks for this great reminder to always be careful when transacting anything. The software may be buggy, whether unintended or on purpose.

It was a little buggy to say the least! Defo a wake up call!
