Luc Robitaille commemorative coin from 1999

Well, it's #ninetiesfriday and I'm going in a different direction then my usual #90sfriday posts.

We're deep into summer so why not do a hockey-coin mashup post!?

This is a Luc Robitaille commemorative coin given away at a game on Feb 11, 1999. It's obviously clad (not silver) as it was given away to all the fans at the game xD

Luc is the highest scoring left-winger in NHL history with 668 goals! Here's his career stats.

1431 games played!?! That is an amazing amount of games to play in a career, in fact that's 33rd most games played on the NHL all-time games played list.

He got traded from the Kings to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1994, then in 1995 he was traded to the NY Rangers, where he played for two years before being traded back to the LA Kings. After four more seasons with the Kings he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings in 2001, where he won a Stanley Cup.

He finished his career with the Kings and is currently the President of the team.

The '98-'99 season was the Kings last season playing at the Fabulous Forum, in Inglewood, CA. The next year they moved to a brand new stadium downtown LA that is now known as Crypto.com Arena ;)

Here is a list of the coins they gave out that year.

Some top-quality players on that list right there, wow!

oooohhhhh dang that is one wild looking coin that I wouldn't mind having in the collection!

Yeah, I'm thinking of getting the other ones in the set. I see them under $10 usd on ebay...

Cool coin. Better snag the rest!

I'm considering it. Hard for me to buy clad coins though. Then I get distracted looking up hockey related .999 silver coins.

I've been buying up graded hockey cards. Just grabbed a Doug Gilmour rookie and a signed Hextall. I have it in my mind to buy Opeechee gretzky from every year he played. Graded of course.

Oh yeah that's awesome. Love me some hockey cards. I'll have to dig mine out here soon and see what's what.
